Boatman Downs Ferrer and Frustrates Volkov

Level 10 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Barny Boatman
Barny Boatman

Roman Volkov opened to 2,500 from early position and was called by Carles Ferrer from the cutoff. Barny Boatman three-bet to 8,000 from the button and was called by both opponents.

Action checked to the PokerStars ambassador on the 982 flop, and Boatman fired out 8,000. Volkov made it 18,000 before Ferrer moved all in for 18,200. Boatman reraised to 43,200 and after some thinking, Volkov called.

The K turn saw Volkov check. Boatman moved all in as the slightly bigger stack. Volkov had around 45,000 behind and went deep into the tank before open-folding his 109. With that, Ferrer and Boatman tabled their cards.

Carles Ferrer: 109All in
Barny Boatman: AK

Boatman was ahead with top pair, top kicker and sealed the pot after the 4 river.

Volkov fumed when he saw that his flush draw came in and began questioning Boatman's play.

"I have my reasons," replied Boatman, who continued to hear Volkov's frustrations long after the hand had finished.

Konnikova's Snowmen Eliminate Meladze

Level 6 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Maria Konnikova
Maria Konnikova

With roughly 9,000 in the pot, on a flop of 638, Merab Meladze shoved for 11,000 with Maria Konnikova calling to put him at risk from the button.

Merab Meladze: 98 All in
Maria Konnikova: 88

Meladze needed runner-runner to stay alive. He found some help on the 10 turn, but the Q river didn't improve his hand and Konnikova's set of eights would eliminate him from the tournament.

Can the Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event Set a New Record?

Level 4 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
Lucien Cohen - Ferdinando D'Alessio
Lucien Cohen - Ferdinando D'Alessio

A year ago, Lucien Cohen, famously known as "Ratman" for his pest control business, etched his name in PokerStars history by conquering the largest-ever field in the €1,100 Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event at Casino Barcelona. Out of a staggering 7,398 entries, Cohen scurried through the competition like a survivor, avoiding extermination, and claimed victory when the dust finally settled.

Cohen's triumph was nothing short of remarkable. After the last card hit the felt, he swept up every chip in sight, walking away with a colossal €676,230, his biggest win since his 2011 EPT Main Event victory in Deauville (€880,000). The total prize pool for the event was an eye-popping €7,102,080, a testament to the growing allure of live poker.

Now, as the 2024 edition of the ESPT Main Event at EPT Barcelona kicks off, the poker world is abuzz with anticipation. Can this year’s event set a new record? With live poker experiencing a boom over the last few years, the chances are looking better than ever.

Day 1a has already seen an impressive 233 players take their seats, setting a brisk pace that could easily surpass last year’s 353 entrants. But even if Day 1a doesn’t quite hit the mark, players have seven more opportunities to join the fray before the survivors converge for Day 2 on August 30.

One thing is certain: all eyes are on Casino Barcelona, where the stage is set for another thrilling chapter in the EPT's history.

Xavier Sala raised to 800 on the button. Guy Cicconi called from the small blind before PokerStars ambassador Barny Boatman three-bet to 3,100 out of the big blind. Sala and Cicconi both called.

Cicconi checked the 105Q flop and Boatman moved all-in for 17,100 total. Only Sala called and the cards were revealed.
