Ilkin Amirov Leads Final Six in EPT12 Prague Main Event

Level 30 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Ilkin Amirov

Day 5 of the European Poker Tour Season 12 Prague Main Event – a tournament that attracted 1,044 players and created a prize pool of €5,063,400 – saw 23 players return to action, but after 12 hours of play, just six remained with Ilkin Amirov and his stack of 9.975 million leading the way.

Others still in contention for the €921,540 first-place prize are Gleb Tremzin (7.785 million), Thomas Butzhammer (5.49 million), Slaven Popov (3.64 million), Hossein Ensan (2.715 million), and Olivier Ferrero (1.745 million).

Toward the start of the day, Henri Jaakola was the first player to go, the result of his ace-eight failing to get there against the pocket tens of Chris Walker, but he soon had company on the rail including Preben Stokkan (22nd - €30,730), who lost a race holding ace-queen against the pocket fours of Esnan; Tomas Pleticha (21st - €30,730), who shoved his short stack with ten-seven only to run into Enio Bozzano's pocket queens; and Abbas Maradi (20th - €35,800), whose pocket jacks failed to hold against Popov's king-queen.

From there, Dominik Paus (19th - €35,800) fell after his pocket jacks were outdrawn by an ace-king when an ace spiked on the river, and French rapper Bruno Lopes feel in similar fashion when his jacks were bested by the ace-king of Tremzin after a king appeared on the turn. Not long after, two back-to-back hands led to the elimination of Benjamin Lamprecht in 17th place.

After the eliminations of Sebastian Gohr (16th - €40,860), Bozzano (15th - €45,930), and Samuel Vousden (14th - €45,930), a wild hand went down, one that'll go down in the annals of EPT history.

With 13 players remaining, Walker open-shoved for 985,000 under the gun. The extremely short-stacked Marc Macdonnell, who began the day as the chip leader, must have liked the protection and opted to call off his last 165,000.

Amirov, who held the chip lead, then called from the cutoff, and when action reached Javier Gomez, who won the World Poker Tour Prague Main Event a week prior, he moved all in over the top for 2.58 million in the big blind. Amazingly, Amirov snap-called to put all three players at risk, and as fate would have it he held the best hand.

Amirov: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Gomez: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Walker: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
Macdonnell: {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

Understandably, the players, rail, and commentators on EPTLive were amazed at what they were seeing, a level of excitement that was ramped up when the {6-Spades}{a-Spades}{9-Spades} flop gave Gomez a flush draw. Everyone was drawing live to the turn, which ended up being the useless {2-Diamonds}.

That meant it all came down to the river. The dealer burned one last time and put out the {6-Diamonds}, which missed everyone and allowed Amirov's kings to hold. Macdonnell and Walker were eliminated in 13th and 12th place respectively, both for €50,990, while Gomez took 11th for €56,950. Not long after, Gavin O'Rourke ran eights into the queens of Onur Unsel to bust in tenth, which set up the unofficial final table.

From there, Vlado Banicevic and Unsal took their leave before play was halted with just six players in contention.

Day 6 will kick off at 1:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday, though coverage won't start until an hour later due to the live-stream delay. We'll be on hand to capture all the action on the way to crowning a winner, so be sure to join us then. While you wait, check out this video on the aforementioned triple-elimination hand.

Onar Unsal Eliminated in 7th Place (€122,530)

Level 30 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Onur Unsal
Onur Unsal

Onar Unsal has become the seventh place finisher after making an ill-timed move in a hand involved Gleb Tremzin.

Unsal opened from cutoff, Slaven Popov called on the button and Tremzin raised to 695,000 from the blinds. Usnal responded with a four-bet shove for around 2,600,000, Popov folded, but Tremzin called.

Unsal: {A-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}
Tremzin: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}

The {2-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop kept Tremzin in front, but the {3-Spades} turn gave Unsal outs to a straight. However, it was Tremzin who improved when the {Q-Spades} completed a Broadway straight and ended play for the night.

Vlado Banicevic Eliminated in 8th Place (€87,700)

Level 30 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante

Vlado Banicevic - 8th Place

Onur Unsal opened for 225,000 under the gun and was met by an all-in three-bet to 590,000 total from Vlado Banicevic in middle position. Action folded back to Unsal, and he made the call.

Unsal: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Banicevic: {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

The {8-Hearts}{10-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop gave Unsal a set, but it also delivered Banicevic an up-and-down straight draw. That was rendered moot though when the {7-Hearts} paired the board to improve Unsal to a full house. The meaningless {K-Diamonds} was put out on the river for good measure, and Banicevic became the last player to bust the tournament without a six-figure payday.

Ivan Deyra Eliminated in 9th Place (€68,560)

Level 29 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Ivan Deyra - 9th Place
Ivan Deyra - 9th Place

Ilkin Amirov opened for 160,000 from the hijack only to have Ivan Deyra three-bet jam for 960,000. Action folded back to Amirov, he called, and it was off to the races.

Amirov: {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}
Deyra: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

It was a flip, and Deyra was no doubt excited to see the {a-Hearts} in the window. Unfortunately for him, it was followed by the {7-Spades} and {9-Diamonds}. The {2-Hearts} turn left Deyra drawing dead, and he watched helplessly as the {J-Spades} river made his elimination in ninth place official.

There will now be a short break so the final eight can take some photos. Cards will be back in the air shortly.

The final table of the Season 12 European Poker Tour Prague Main Event is set after Gavin O'Rourke bust in 10th place.

O'Rourke found himself all-in with {8-Spades}{8-Hearts} versus the {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} of Onur Unsel and when the five community cars fell {2-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} it was game over for the popular Irishman and game on for the nine finalists.

One of the Wildest Hands in EPT History That Results in Three-Player Elimination

One of the wildest hands in EPT history just went down at the feature table of the EPT12 Prague Main Event. With 13 players remaining, Chris Walker open-shoved for 985,000 under the gun. The extremely short-stacked Marc Macdonnell, who began the day as the chip leader, must have liked the protection and opted to call off his last 165,000.

Chip leader Ilkin Amirov then called from the cutoff, and when action reached Javier Gomez, who won the World Poker Tour Prague Main Event last week, he moved all in over the top for 2.58 million in the big blind. Amazingly, Amirov snap-called to put all three players at risk, and as fate would have it he held the best hand.

Samuel Vousden Eliminated in 14th Place (€45,930)

Level 28 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante
Samuel Vousden - 14th Place
Samuel Vousden - 14th Place

It took just two big hands to see Samuel Vousden from sitting in decent shape to being out in 14th place.

In the first, Vousden opened for 135,000 from the button and was met by a three-bet to 315,000 by Onur Unsal in the small blind. Vousden responded by moving all in and Unsal snap-called off for 1.105 million.

Unsal: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
Vousden: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}

"Good luck, big one," Vousden offered. It was a big pot, but this one would go to Unsal after the board ran out {6-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. Vousden was left with just 660,000 after the hand.

Two hands later, Vousden shoved all in for 640,000 from the hijack and Hossein Ensan called from the button.

Ensan: {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Vousden: {q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{k-Clubs}{k-Spades}{5-Hearts} and that was all she wrote for Vousden.

Macdonnell Decimated

Level 28 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante
Marc MacDonnell
Marc MacDonnell

Marc Macdonnell is down to only 185,000 chips after a cool of a hand against Gleb Tremzin.

A raise and three-bet preflop saw bet on the flop, turn and river of the {A-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{k-Spades}{5-Hearts} board, Macdonnell jamming on the river and Tremzin calling to create a 5,610,000 pot. Macdonnell turned over {A-Spades}{5-Diamonds} for a full house, but was crushed by the {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} of Tremzin. Ouch.

Enio Bozzano Eliminated in 15th Place (€45,930)

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Enio Bozzano - 15th Place
Enio Bozzano - 15th Place

After Ilkin Amirov raised from early position, Enio Bozzano called from the big blind to see a {4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop. Bozzano checked, Amirov bet, and Bozzano woke up with a check-raise. Amirov proceeded to move all in and Bozzano spent more than two minutes in the tank before calling off.

Bozzano: {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}
Amirov: {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}

Both players held overpairs, but of course Amirov's was best. Bozzano needed a seven to stay alive, but it didn't happen as the {Q-Clubs} blanked on the turn followed by the {Q-Spades} on the river.

Sebastian Gohr Eliminated in 16th Place (€40,860)

Sebastian Gohr
Sebastian Gohr

Germany's Sebastian Gohr has bust in 16th place, a finish worth €40,860.

Gohr raised to 105,000 and was facing a 275,000 three-bet from Olivier Ferrero. Gohr paused for close to one minute before announcing his was all-in. Ferrero's call was instantaneous.

Gohr: {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Ferrero: {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}

The {K-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop was no help for Gohr and the {3-Spades} turn left him drawing completely dead. The {J-Spades} river confirmed Gohr's demise, and the tournament is now down to 15 players.
