After almost exactly 8 hours of play, Day 1f of the Champions Club Winter Poker Open Event #4: $400- $300k GTD Mystery Bounty wrapped up with 17 players in the money and advancing to Day 2.

Leading the charge is Caesar Hinojosa who caught fire early in the day and kept up the momentum, leading to a pile of chips being put into a bag. Hinojosa and Kris Burchfield were the only players to cross half a million chips from the field of 137 entries, with Hinojosa finishing the day with 573,000.

Bagging second in chips is Mary Jo Olsavsky who was a force throughout the day, steadily building her stack and folding in key spots. Burchfield follows in third with 364,000 while Nicholas Toralba (320,000) and Viet Vo (291,000) round out fourth and fifth.

Action of the Day

Levi Peters
Levi Peters

By the first break of the day, It was Levi Peters who had taken a big early lead with around 140,000 chips while no one else had even 85,000. Unfortunately, he ran into some tough spots and lost most of his stack when he got it in with a pair and second-nut flush draw against the nut-flush draw of Hinojasa. The flush hit on the river to score Hinojosa the big pot, starting his meteoric run on the day while Peters was left crippled and busted soon after.

Later on, Aashir Aggarwal took the lead from Hinojosa when he beat him in a massive pot by hitting a big combo draw against Hinojosa's flopped set of jacks. This did not last long, however, as Hinojosa got it all back when he bet huge on the river with a pocket pair of fours and Aggarwal tossed in the hero call with just ace-high in a 500,000 pot. Meanwhile, Burchfield and Olsavsky were on the neighboring table building mountains of there own and finished in the top three.

Among the notables who took their shot today but failed to advance were David Shaw, Jessica Richards, Lawrence Wayne, Jason Fitzpatrick, Drake Roetker, and Kamoru Yusuf.

Up Next

An even larger field is expected for the four scheduled weekend flights so there is plenty of opportunity to get the prize pool over the $300,000 guarantee. PokerNews will be on deck providing coverage every step of the way until a champion is crowned on the aptly-named Champions Club live stream on Monday.

End of Day; Players Bag

Level 14 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

With the elimination of Russell Ross on the bubble, the remaining 17 players are now in the money and have bagged up their chips to return on Monday for Day 2.

A recap of the day's events along with players' chip counts will be released shortly, so stay tuned!

Russel Ross Eliminated as Bubble Bursts

Level 14 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

On a heads-up flop of 4KK, Russell Ross and Steven Vaum got all of the chips into the middle, with Ross at risk.

Russell Ross: KJ (top two-pair)
Steven Vaum: [straight & flush combo draw)

The turn 9 immediately gave Vaum the straight to take the lead and the river 4 paired the wrong card to send Ross to the rail on the stone bubble.

Ho Doubles With Queens

Level 14 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Kris Burchfield opened to 20,000, Jamie Ho moved all in and Phil Ngo shoved for more right behind him. This resulted in a fold from Burchfield and the two players tabled their hands.

Jamie Ho: QQ
Phil Ngo: 1010

The board ran out 2QK3A for Ho's pocket queens to hold and he was awarded the pot for the double up while Ngo was left short.

Ace from Space for Vaum

Level 13 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Caesar Hinojosa opened for 16,000 on the button and then Steven Vaum moved all in for 159,000 from the small blind. The action was then on Viet Vo in the big blind who went into the tank. After around 30 seconds he sighed and tossed in his hand as Hinojosa called to put Vaum at risk.

"I just folded ace-queen," Vo admitted.

"Oh damn, that's one of my outs!" Hinojosa said as he tabled QQ, but he was actually ahead as Vaum tabled A9 for just ace-high.

Unfortunately for Hinojosa, the runout came 2784A to give Vaum the saving ace on the river to win him the large pot.

"Ugh, if I wasn't such a nit that would have been a triple for me!" Vo kicked himself for folding .
