Budin Starts Well

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

The first few hands of heads-up play saw Joshua Budin attacking and Daniel Laidlaw gave up two hands. Then, Budin raised to 32,000 and Laidlaw called. On the flop {Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{10-Spades}, Laidlaw check-called a bet of 35,000 and then check-folded the {J-Hearts} turn to a bet of 80,000.

One hand later, the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{10-Hearts} flop was checked through. Laidlaw bet the {Q-Clubs} turn for 16,000 and Budin called before facing another bet of 44,000 on the {K-Hearts} river. Budin called and Laidlaw showed deuces only, giving away the pot to the {J-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{6-Spades} of his opponent.

No Deal!

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

Both players ran through the numbers but ultimately didn't agree to a deal. Daniel Laidlaw scooped the first small pot with two pair, nines and sixes, but a decision is not in sight with both opponents quite deep at 40 big blinds and more.

Xen Xenofontos Eliminated in 3rd Place (AU$33,750)

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante
Xen Xenofontos
Xen Xenofontos

Xen Xenofontos raised from the button and both opponents came along to generate a pot of 192,000 to the flop {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. Joshua Budin in the small blind and Daniel Laidlaw in the big blind checked and Xenofontos then moved all in for around 100,000. Budin folded and Laidlaw snap-called.

Xenofontos: {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}
Laidlaw: {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

The {J-Clubs} turn and {3-Clubs} river changed nothing whatsoever and Xenofontos was sent to the rail in third place for AU$33,750. The remaining two players took a short break to calculate some possible deal numbers.

Big Double for Laidlaw

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

Joshua Budin has been the dominating chip leader for quite some time, but just lost the top spot to Daniel Laidlaw when the two big stacks clashed. Until the {7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{7-Clubs} turn, a pot of 260,000 emerged and Budin fired a bet of 150,000. Laidlaw moved all in for more than double of that and Budin called.

Laidlaw: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Budin: {J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}

Laidlaw was in the lead and even made a full house with the {K-Spades} river double into the lead.

Nikolaos Solomos Eliminated in 4th Place (AU$26,715)

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

In a limped pot, Daniel Laidlaw fired three streets on the board {J-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{5-Spades} and Nikolaos Solomos called him down until he was all in after the river. Laidlaw showed the {J-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{4-Hearts} for a flopped set of fours and Solomos only held the inferior {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}.

Solomos has been eliminated in fourth place for a payday of AU$26,715.

Xenofontos Doubles

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

On the flop {A-Spades}{J-Spades}{2-Clubs}, Xen Xenofontos got his last 51,000 chips in with a pot of around 60,000 and Daniel Laidlaw looked him up.

Xenofontos: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Spades} for top pair, a straight and flush draw
Laidlaw: {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{7-Spades} for middle set

The {5-Hearts} turn was a brick, but the {8-Spades} river provided the flush for Xenofontos and he doubled.

Billy Argyros Eliminated in 5th Place (AU$21,095)

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 0 ante
Billy Argyros
Billy Argyros

After a limp, Billy Argyros raised the pot and Daniel Laidlaw repotted to put Argyros all in and at risk of elimination.

Argyros: {Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Spades}
Laidlaw: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}

The flop {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs} improved Argyros to two pair, but he then needed an eight or king once the {J-Hearts} fell on the turn. It was all over after the {2-Clubs} river and Argyros headed to the rail in 5th place.

Playing Cat and Mouse

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 0 ante

Xen Xenofontos limped from the button, Billy Argyros called in the small blind and Joshua Budin checked his option in the big blind. On the flop {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}{5-Spades} all three players checked. Budin then bet the {Q-Clubs} turn for 25,000 and his opponents folded.
