Ace-Ten for Everybody

Level 27 : 30,000/60,000, 5,000 ante

Sorel Mizzi opened for a raise on the button, Jake Balsiger called out of the small blind, and the dealer spread {3-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{4-Spades}. Balsiger check-called a bet of 235,000, and both players knuckled on the turn ({9-Diamonds}) and the river ({4-Clubs})

Both players showed {a-}{10-}, and chopped the pot.

Seiver Continues to Chip Up

Level 27 : 30,000/60,000, 5,000 ante

Andrew Phaedonos opened for 140,000 and cleared the field to Scott Seiver, who decided to look him up from the big blind. Both players checked the {2-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop, the {10-Hearts} turned, and Seiver took the opportunity to bet 200,000.

Phaedonos made the call, the {7-Spades} completed the board on the river, and the Seiver fired out four blue T100,000 chips for a bet of 400K. Phaedonos wasted little time in making the call, but he simply mucked when Seiver rolled over {2-}{2-} for a set.

Seiver Doubles Again

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Scott Seiver was second to act, and open-shoved for 575,000. The action folded to Jake Balsiger, and as players started to leave for break, the Octo-Niner called.

Seiver: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Balsiger: {k-Spades}{j-Spades}

The dominant hand held up as the board ran out {6-Hearts}{7-Spades}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}, and Seiver doubled.

The players are now on break, and here are full counts from the table:

One for the Local

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Three players each put in 100,000 preflop and saw a flop of {4-Spades}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. Two checks put action on Jake Balsiger, and he put out a bet of 135,000. Andrew Phaedonos called from the blind, and Sorel Mizzi got out of the way. Both players then checked the {7-Spades} turn as well as the {8-Clubs} river and Balsiger tabled {a-}{k-}. Phaedonos then rolled over {9-}{7-} for two pair and the win.

Nine-High is No Good

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Sorel Mizzi completed from the small blind, Jake Balsiger checked in the big blind, and the flop came {j-Hearts}{2-Spades}{10-Hearts}. Mizzi led out for 55,000, Balsiger called, and the turn was the suicide king ({k-Hearts}).

Mizzi fired out another 155,000, Balsiger called, and both players knuckled when the {7-Clubs} completed the board.

Mizzi announced that he had nine-nigh, then mucked when Balsiger showed {10-}{6-}.

It's Not a Chop After All

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

A short-stacked Scott Seiver moved all in and Sorel Mizzi made the call.

Seiver: {a-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}
Mizzi: {a-Spades}{3-Spades}

The local Melbourne contingent, who are no doubt hoping their man Andrew Phaedonos will move up in money, were vocally disappointed to see Seiver was ahead and began calling for a three. When the {6-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop made a chop likely, the crowd began to call for one.

Their calls were answered when the {J-Diamonds} turned, but then the {5-Hearts} spiked on the river to pair Seiver and give him the double.

Phaedonos' Turn to Double

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Andrew Phaedonos
Andrew Phaedonos

Well, that escalated quickly.

Scott Seiver open-shoved again - this time for around 800,000 in the cutoff - and Andrew Phaedonos called all in for less from the small blind.

Seiver: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Phaedonos: {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

As we highlighted earlier, Phaedonos is the only Aussie at the final table, so his rail was up on their feet before the cards were on their backs. The {2-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop gave Seiver backdoor straight and flush draws to go along with his two over cards, and both draws remained live when the turn was the {10-Diamonds}.

“Too many outs!” someone yelled from the rail.

Phaedonos was amongst his brethren, pacing in between streets, and they all fell silent as the dealer rapped the table for a final time.

The {4-Spades} on the river was a brick, and Phaedonos’ rail exploded. The Aussie doubled through, while Seiver is back on the short stack.

Seiver Gets It in Against Jake Balsiger

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Jake Balsiger opened for 100,000 and was met by an all-in three-bet to roughly 400,000 by a short-stacked Scott Seiver. Action folded back around to Balsiger and he made the call.

Seiver: {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Balsiger: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

The crowd was on their feet to watch the race, and many of them seemed disappointed when the {j-Hearts}{6-Spades}{8-Diamonds} flop paired Seiver and made him a huge favorite to double. Neither the {5-Clubs} turn nor {3-Diamonds} river changed a thing, and Seiver extended his tournament life.

Gettin' Mizzi With It

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Sorel Mizzi
Sorel Mizzi

Ami Barer was first to act, and raised to 100,000. Sorel Mizzi called on his direct left, the rest of the players folded, and the dealer fanned {3-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. Barer continued for 90,000, Mizzi called, and the turn brought the {7-Clubs}.

Barer fired a second bullet worth 270,000, Mizzi called, and the {4-Clubs} completed the board.

Barer emptied the chamber, plopping 665,000 in front of him - roughly three quarters of the pot - and Mizzi went into the tank. The Canadian riffled chips with his left hand while studying the board, then finally reached for chips.

With two hands full of chocolate T25,000 chips, Mizzi pushed forward a raise to 1.55 million. Barer sat back in his chair, breathing deeply, then started to fidget a bit. He moved his mouth back and forth while he thought about the decision, then finally flicked his cards into the muck, conceding the pot.
