Raymond Doubles Up

The short stacks aren't going quietly at this final table. Derek Raymond was the next to double up. He led all the way with a raise preflop, a bet on the flop and an all-in bet on the turn. Danny Mountt check-called every bet. The board showed {5-Clubs} {A-Spades} {K-Hearts} {6-Hearts} at the turn. Raymond's {A-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {8-Spades} had the low locked up against Mountt's {K-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {6-Spades} {2-Diamonds} but was behind for high. That changed when the river came {8-Hearts} to make a heart flush for Raymond. He's up to 40,000, while Mountt has fallen back to 92,000.

Michael Guzzardi Eliminated in 8th Place (AU$3,570)

Michael Guzzardi - 8th Place
It seemed to just be a matter of time before someone got Michael Guzzardi. Down to 6,500 chips and with the blinds approaching, Guzzardi moved all in with {A-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {4-Diamonds}. He was called by big blind Mel Judah, who tabled {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {10-Spades} {9-Clubs}. The board favored Judah's hand when it ran out {2-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {K-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} to give him two pair, kings and nines. Guzzardi takes home prize money of AU$3,570. Not bad for a game which he professed not to have played much before today.

Raymond's Turn on the Hot Seat

Derek Raymond lost a third of his stack without even getting to the river. He raised preflop and was called by the two big stacks, Danny Mountt and Rainer Quel. Raymond tried a bet on the {3-Diamonds} {j-Clubs} {9-Hearts} but couldn't shake Quel. When the turn came {K-Hearts}, Raymond checked and then folded to Quel's 8,000-chip bet.

Raymond is down to 23,000 in chips.

Scoop Keeps Furniss in the Game

Mark Furniss limped in with an excellent starting hand, {A-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {5-Clubs}, and it worked out for him. Rainer Quel and big blind Danny Mountt came along without raising. Furniss wound up all in on a flop of {A-Hearts} {K-Spades} {8-Spades}, called only by Mountt. The turn {A-Spades} and river {2-Spades} give Furniss a full house for high and the second nut low. Mountt showed {A-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} for a much worse hand.

Furniss is up to 25,500.

Mick Stanton Eliminated in 9th Place (AU$2,550)

Mick "the Hoon" Stanton - 9th Place
Mick "the Hoon" Stanton - 9th Place
Danny Mountt wasn't the aggressor on any street in a hand against Mick "the Hoon" Stanton, but that didn't stop him from knocking Stanton out of the tournament. Stanton raised preflop, bet the flop and moved all in on the turn. Mountt called every step of the way. The board showed {K-Clubs} {4-Spades} {6-Spades} {2-Spades} when they opened their hands.

Stanton: {A-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}
Mountt: {A-Spades} {3-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {K-Spades}

Mountt showed down the worst possible hand that Stanton could have hoped for -- the nut flush for high and the nut low. When the river fell {K-Hearts}, he was eliminated in ninth place. His reward is AU$2,550.

Mountt is now over the six-figure mark. He has 113,000 in chips.

Quel and Raymond Show Identical Full Houses

A four-way limped pot with Rainer Quel, Danny Mountt, Derek Raymond and big blind Michael Guzzardi brought a seeming action flop, {A-Hearts} {K-Spades} {2-Spades}. Raymond led out from the small blind and was called only by Quel. He bet again on the {2-Diamonds} turn and again Quel called. Both players checked the {4-Diamonds} river. Raymond showed {A-Spades} {2-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} for a full house with no low; Quel had the same hand with {A-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {3-Spades} {9-Diamonds}.
