Kostritsyn Likes It Down Under

Alexander Kostritsyn
Alexander Kostritsyn
2008 Aussie Millions Champion Alexander Kostritsyn isn't wasting any time getting reacquainted with the Crown Casino poker chips as they continue to be pushed his way.

In a recent pot, Kostritsyn bet the river on the board of {J-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{A-Spades} into two opponents who both called. Kostritsyn showed {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts} for the nut flush and second-nut low to scoop the entire pot. He's now up to 24,600 chips.

The Eliminations Continue

Daniel Kochan, Michael Guttman and Jethro Horowitz are among the recent departures in the tournament. With 54 players still in contention, the field has been trimmed almost in half.

JJProdigy Busts

Josh "JJProdigy" Field
Josh "JJProdigy" Field
Josh "JJProdigy" Field has been eliminated after his {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{8-Hearts} failed to improve on a board of {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{5-Clubs}. Field was short-stacked and committed preflop but Paul Sharbanee had flopped the goods with his {A-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{9-Hearts} for trip deuces.

Sharbanee is now out in front as our tournament chip leader.

Recent Eliminations

2008 World Series of Poker Main Event runner-up Ivan Demidov is out. He was all in against Harry "Taxicab" Demetriou and mucked when Demetriou opened {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {5-Clubs} on a board of {A-Clubs} {8-Spades} {Q-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}.

Event #1 runner-up Steve Topakas is also out, despite his amazing triple-up a short while ago. He was eliminated by Josh "JJProdigy" Field who flopped a full house with {K-Spades} {6-Spades} {A-Spades} {Q-Clubs}. That hand held on a board of {K-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} against Topakas' {A-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}.

Quel Straightens Potter

Rainer Quel
Rainer Quel
Rainer Quel raised under the gun and James Potter made the call on the button as did the player in the small blind.

The flop landed {5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and the small blind player was all in for his last 250. Quel called but Potter made the raise to 550. Quel called once again.

The turn was the {J-Spades} and Quel checked to Potter who reached for betting chips. Quel reached for calling chips which appeared to be enough to deter Potter from betting as he decided to check behind.

The river was the {7-Hearts} and this time Quel led for 600 with Potter making the call.

Quel tabled {10-Spades}{8-Clubs}{8-Spades}{6-Spades} for a a jack-high straight as Potter couldn't find a low with his {A-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{9-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}.

The small blind is eliminated, Potter slips to 11,000 while Quel is now out to a healthy 23,000 chips.

Topakas Scoops; Eliminates Bloom and Eastwood

A huge hand has just gone down that saw Steve Topakas recover chips as two players were sent to the rail.

In preflop action, Topakas opened with a limp of 300 from early position before Ken Eastwood raised all in for 575. Ashish Gupta called before Tony Bloom put in another raise to 875. Constantin Harach cold-called and Topakas came along for the ride.

The flop landed {Q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and Harach fired out a bet of 300. Topakas created yet another side pot as he was all in for 350. Gupta, Bloom and Harach all made the call.

The turn was the {10-Clubs} and Harach fired again for 600. Gupta called as Bloom now found himself all in for his last 225.

With only two live players remaining, the river was the {J-Diamonds} and Harach fired again with Gupta finally releasing his hand.

With three players all in, the hands were revealed:

Harach: {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Topakas: {K-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{5-Spades}{3-Spades}
Bloom: {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}
Eastwood: mucked

Bloom held pocket aces but Harach had spiked a set on the flop with his queens. However it was not enough as Topakas ran them down with a running king-high straight. With no low on board Topakas more than triples up as Bloom and Eastwood are both eliminated on a wild hand!

Pickering Packs His Bag

Jamie Pickering's day is over
Jamie Pickering's day is over
Gary Benson's on a bit of a heater. Three hands in a row he flopped a set. The third time was with Jamie Pickering all in. Benson's {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {J-Spades} connected hard and eventually made a straight on a board of {10-Spades} {2-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {K-Spades}. Pickering couldn't have missed worse with {A-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} and he made a quiet exit.

Benson is up to 5,400 in chips.
