Break It Up

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

The last 10-minute break of the day has been reached and the players are off to get a drink or some fresh air.

The opponent of Yucheng Rong on the same table as Steve O'Dwyer can take more time as he was just covered and busted with pocket kings. It was a matter of two big blinds that had him done for, Rong held {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} and the board ran out {9-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}.

During this last break of Day 1b, the T-25 chips will be raced off as they are no longer required for the progress of the tournament.

Too Much Temptation

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Yubin Zheng opened the action with a raise from the cutoff and a player from Lebanon moved all in for 7,800 out of the small blind. The Chinese had a hard time to make up his mind and eventually called before sheepishly turning over his hand in {6-Spades}{8-Clubs}. The opponent held {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and doubled up on a board of {4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

How did we know that he is Lebanese? Because Elias Abou Saleh chatted with him right after the hand.

170 players left right now and that number will decrease significantly still in the last two hours of Day 1b.

China Dominates Starting Field

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

With the registration officially closed, the Asia Pacific Poker Tour has also released the participation by country and China clearly dominates with 236 entrants out of the 493. That's almost 48% and well up compared to last year, where they accounted for just 37% of the field.

Second-strongest country is Hong Kong with 43 players followed by Chinese Taipei (23), Australia (21) and Japan (20).

Pereira's Grind Comes to An End

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Christophe Pereira limped his short stack from the small blind and the player in the big blind checked to see a flop of {7-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. Pereira check-called a bet of 1,000 and then check-called all in for his last 3,200 on the {5-Diamonds} turn with his {Q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. The opponent had flopped two pair with {J-Clubs}{7-Spades} and even apologized for it once the {10-Spades} river bricked.

Liu Climbing

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Geng Liu raised to 2,500 from under the gun and watched as his opponent in middle position raised to 5,500. Liu made the call and both players watched the flop come down {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{7-Spades}.

A check from Liu saw the raiser bet out another 6,000. Liu then instantly splashed out 15,000 in chips which was enough to take down the pot as his opponent mucked just as quickly.

Liu has had a productive day and seems to be the chip leader with a level and a half to play.

Wittendorff's Implosion

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Upon checking the outer tables again, Kim Wittendorff had disappeared. Fabio Fumagalli in seat two explained that the Dane was complaining about sitting in the hallway upon arriving at his new table and then ran a bluff with {A-}{J-} for ace-high while Wenxiong Luo already had a full house and very easy call.

Zhao the Silent Assassin

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Fan Zhao spent the entire day over on table 20 and that one is difficult to access. Just now he was spotted as one of the biggest stacks in the room and sure enough he raised to 2,100 as well. The player on the button called and Zhao checked the {Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} flop. The Chinese and his opponent both checked before Zhao check-called a bet of 2,600 on the {7-Clubs} turn.

On the {K-Spades} river, it was another check but this time the opponent didn't fall for the trap and checked behind. Zhao flipped over his {A-Spades}{A-Hearts} and there was some "ohhh's" on the table.

Kim On The Decline

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

The player in middle position raised to 1,800 and was called by Gab Yong Kim in the hijack. The player in the big blind then slid out 3,600 and was called by both his opponents.

He then checked the {2-Spades}{a-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} forcing the player in middle position to bet out 4,000. Kim called before the player in the small blind instantly moved all in for 12,100. The raiser snap folded his hand before Kim let out a laugh. He made the call and both players tabled their cards.

Kim: {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

Opponent: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}

Kim was almost drawing dead and would find no help as the board ran out {k-Hearts} and {3-Hearts} to see him drop down to 6,500 in chips.
