PokerStars’ Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier set a record in April of this year, playing 62 tables on PokerStars.com during the EPT Monte Carlo event.
PokerStars and Full Tilt competed to keep the world’s largest poker tournament record. PokerStars started their tournament earlier than Full Tilt, setting a new record before Full Tilt’s tournament had started and maintaining the record.
Online, PokerStars also beat a record in September, having 307,016 players simultaneously sitting at tables on PokerStars.com, the most players in an online poker room. Its show, PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge, became the most watched poker TV show in history with four million viewers watching 9/11 hero Mike Kosowski win $1 million.
PokerStars launched new tournament series, namely the Spring Championship of Online Poker, with three different buy in levels: small, medium and high.
PokerStars also announced these regional tours: the UK & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT), the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) and the Italian Poker Tour (IPT).
PokerStars ended the year with another record-breaking tournament. A $1 tournament was played by 149,196 people.
