PokerStars dealt its 10 billionth hand and introduced the Supernova Elite VIP level, which required a player to earn one million VIP player points. Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier was the first to reach this status.
PokerStars donated $1 million to the Not On Our Watch Darfur charity, sponsored by the Oceans Thirteen stars. By June, Daniel Negreanu joined PokerStars Team Pro, later becoming the top spokesman for PokerStars.
The Sunday Hundred Grand tournament set a record for the largest real money poker tournament with 20,000 players and a winner taking home $20,000.
PokerStars also launched the Asia Pacific Poker Tour with four events in Manila, Seoul, Macau and Sydney.
By this point in time, PokerStars added support for multiple languages to its software client, ending the year supporting 14 languages.
The WCOOP had the first short-handed tournaments this year and a total of 23 events. The winner took home over a $1 million for the first time.
PokerStars had 150,000 players now on the site for the first time and opened up their software to support Apple Mac.
