On Day 1a of the WPT Prime Cyprus Championship, there were 190 players seated at the start of play, with the number of entrants eventually topping out at 340.

For Day 1b, things were slightly different with less than half that amount seated to begin Level 1. However, the poker room at Chamada Prestige Hotel & Casino soon filled up, with eventually 334 entries joining the action.

42 players from Day 1b have now joined the 43 from Day 1a, with just two more flights remaining.

Day 1b Action

Ilya Kitsbabashvili picked up kings to eliminate an opponent and sit on close to 300 big blinds in Level 4, while Marvin Levant was also in action early with a stack of 250 big blinds.

One of the most exciting pots of the day went the way of Lennart Dijkkamp who cracked aces and pocket jacks with pocket kings, turning a king to send two opponents to the rail.

By dinner break, it was Salavat Shafigullin who was clear from the rest of the field as registration closed.

Texas tournament grinder Jared Hemingway was still in contention at this point — adding WPT Prime Cyprus to his Mediterranean vacation with his wife — but he would fall short of Day 2.

Maksim Ausiyevich

Maksim Ausiyevich (pictured) would emerge as the end-of-day chip leader, helped by the elimination of Anatoly Suvorov where Ausiyevich flopped a set of sevens and dodged the flush draw of his opponent.

Others through to Day 2 include Fabio Muhr, Tudor Purice, Dijkkamp and Ugo Faggioli.
