Largest Poker Bad Beat Jackpot in History Hits at Playground Poker Club ($2.6 Million)

A world record was set at Playground Poker Club in Canada on Wednesday when a poker bad beat jackpot hit in a $1/$2 no-limit hold'em cash game for CAD $2,590,185 (approximately $1.9 million USD).
The popular Quebec card room shared photos on social media of the hand along with the players involved celebrating. When it comes to a bad beat jackpot, it is customary for the player who lost the hand to receive the largest chunk of the pot and the winning player to also secure a big portion of the reward. Additionally, the other players at the table then split the remainder of the pot. At Playground, there is also a small payout from the pot for everyone else seated in games throughout the poker room.
Poker Bad Beat Jackpot Hand Details
On a flop of 8♦10♥10♦, Hoan Truong, who was holding 10♣10♠ for quads, knew he couldn't possibly lose the hand even if if his opponent, Marc Andre Ouellon would hit a straight flush later in the hand. That is because if that were to happen, it would trigger what would become a record-setting bad beat jackpot.
Little did Truong know at the time that Ouellon actually was drawing to a straight flush with 6♦9♦. The turn brought about the straight flush when the 7♦ appeared. After the 2♦ turned up on the river, Truong moved all in and was quickly called by Ouellon. Both players exposed their cards and then celebrated upon discovering they had just set off a seven-figure bad beat jackpot.
Truong took home CAD $984,270 for losing the bad beat, the largest share at the table, while Ouellon was paid half that amount (CAD $492,135). Table share was CAD $82,003. Per the house rules, for the jackpot to trigger, a player must lose with a minimum qualifying hand. In this case, it was quad deuces or better. The bad beat jackpot reset following the August 2 hit and, as of August 9, 2023, it was at nearly CAD $770,000 with a quad aces qualifying requirement.
All the Largest Poker Bad Beat Jackpots Happen at Playground
Coincidentally, Playground Poker Club is also home to the previous largest bad beat jackpot and it was, oddly enough, a similar hand. In June 2022, quad 10's also lost to a straight flush for a $2.2 million jackpot ($1.64 million USD).
Later that summer at Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, a $1.2 million jackpot was set off when quad aces were cracked by the royal flush of Raymond Broderson, a local low-stakes poker player.
