Marius Gierse Shines Brightly on WSOP Online Main Event Day 1b

Marius Gierse has done his chances of glory in the 2022 WSOP Online Main Event at GGPoker no harm at all but building himself a massive stack on Day 1B of the $20 million guaranteed tournament. Gierse turned his 60,000-starting stack into a colossal pile containing 1,466,483 chips. Of course, there is a long, long way to go before this incredible event crowns its champion, but Gierse must be on top of the world right now.

Another 679 players bought into Day 1B of the $5,000 WSOP Online Main Event, with only 105 of those starters punching their Day 2 tickets. The running total for the Main Event is now 1,136 entrants and 166 players through to Day 2. Those of you reaching for your calculators to work out the current overlay need not bother because PokerNews can tell you there needs to be another $14,604,000 collected across the next six Day 1s in order for the $20 million guarantee to be hit.

Gierse's stack was the second-largest on Day 1b and is the second-largest of the tournament thus far. Only Canada's Xing "Mai_K_4_Life" He (1,505,388) has managed to build a larger stack on the opening two flights. Definitely keep an eye on He and Gierse as this monster-sized online poker tournament progresses.

Chris Brewer crashed out late into Day 1B proceedings, bowing out in 108th with 105 progressing. However, Brewer made amends for his near miss by taking down a $2,100 buy-in PKO tournament for more than $40,000.

Plenty of big names and familiar faces chose Day 1B to start their 2022 WSOP Online Main Event quest. Many of those stellar players managed to navigate their way through the day's shark-infested waters.

Matas Cimbolas (105,727), Darrell Goh (247,178), Mark Radoja (272,213), Rainer Kempe (286,191), Patrick Leonard (338,572), Niklas Astedt (355,382), Dimitar Danchev (465,725), Stefan Schillhabel (468,568), Samuel Vousden (565,536), Teun Mulder (696,281), and Stevan Chew (697,279) are just a handful of players who made it safely into Day 2.

Juan Dominguez Helps Himself to a $100,000 Score

The $5,250 Bounty Hunters Super HR tournament drew in 56 players who created a $280,000 prize pool. More than $100,000 of that sum, $100,226 to be exact, is now in the GGPoker account of Spain's Juan Dominguez.

Only the final seven players received a payout from the main prize pool. Alex "FutureofMe" Kulev was the first player to cash. The likes of Rodrigo Selouan, Christian Rudolph, and the legendary Niklas Astedt also padded their already substantial bankrolls.

Third place went to "Joyeux," which left Dominguez heads-up against GGPoker ambassador Anatoly Filatov. Dominguez sent Filatov to the rail in second place, resigning the popular pro to a $45,738 consolation prize while snagging to six-figure top prize for himself.

Oliver Weis Welcomes a $150,000 Payment to his GGPoker Account

Oliver Weis is $150,650 richer than a day ago thanks to taking down the $1,050 GGMasters High Rollers event. The tournament drew in 1,084 competitors, meaning a $1,084,000 prize pool, far larger than the advertised $750,000 guarantee.

The chunky prize pool meant everyone who skilfully navigated their way to the nine-handed final table was rewarded with at least $15,064, with the top two finishers netting prizes tipping the scales at six figures.

Tobias Duthweiler crashed out in ninth, and David Coleman, Pedro "ODDj0b" Doro, and Stefan "shetlef12" Nemetz joined him on the list of busted players.

Austria's Leon "Rumuku!us" Sturm ran out of steam in fifth, a finish good for $47,639, while Laszlo Molnar collected $63,528 after his untimely demise in fourth. The elimination of Craig "raven Symone" Mason came with $84,716, and sent the tournament into the heads-up stage.

Weis fought one-on-one with "2jundol2" of Hong Kong, and proved too much for his opponent to handle. 2jundol2 saw $112,971 hit their GGPoker account, leaving Weis to reel in a haul worth $150,650.

Other GGPoker Victories Worth $40,000 or More

There were a dozen victories at GGPoker this weekend that came with a top prize in excess of $40,000. Wiktor Malinowski captured a $210,193 prize after outlasting 12 opponents in the $25,500 Super High Roller event.
