WPY Online Championship under the Tournament Spotlight

You could do much worse that choose the WPT Online Championship if you only play one online poker tournament this weekend. This prestigious event, held at partypoker, guarantees a whopping $5 million will be dished out, plus you get to brag about becoming a World Poker Tour champion.

The $5 million guaranteed WPT Online Championship features four starting flights, with one of them already completed. Each costs $3,200 to enter and you receive a 40,000 starting stack for your investment. Blinds start at 100/200/20a and increase every 25-minutes, except for the turbo-structured Day 1D where they rise every 10-minutes.

Day 1A took place on May 10 and got the tournament off to a flying start. Some 808 players bought in before the Day 1A door slammed shut, which contributed to $2,424,000 to the prize pool.

Only 141 of those starters punched their ticket for Day 2 and nobody finished with more chips than Netherlands’ Hakim Zoufri. The Dutchman and former Amsterdam Masters champion bagged up 791,877 chips at the close of play and has done his chances of WPT glory no harm at all.

Dozens more household names also made it through from the first flight. These include Benny Glaser, Guillaume Nolet, Juan Pardo, Timothy Adams, Matas Cimbolas, Davidi Kitai, and Michael Addamo.

Also through to Day 2 are such luminaries as Igor Kurganov, Artur Martriosian, Jorryt Van Hoof, Ali Imsirovic, Ole Schemion, Steven Van Zadelhoff, and Dan Smith.
