WSOPE: All Day 1s Wrapped in Colossus, Four WSOP POY Contenders in the Race
Starting all the way back on October 28, all eight starting flights of Event #15: €550 Colossus No-Limit Hold'em have now wrapped up at the 2019 World Series of Poker Europe in King's Resort, Rozvadov. A total of 2,738 entries were made overall, of which 313 were able to make their way to Day 2.
The 2019 WSOP Player of the Year race will reach an epic conclusion as both Daniel Negreanu, first in the race, and Anthony Zinno were able to finally make it through in on the final flight, joining Shaun Deeb (Day 1f) and Robert Campbell (Day 1h) who survived an earlier starting day. Negreanu will return to Day 2 with 235,000 to try and defend his POY lead, Campbell, second, holds the biggest stack among all four with 374,000, while Deeb is third and bagged 215,000. Zinno rounds up the four of them with 261,000 for Day 2.
The final starting flight on Day 1i was the last chance for Negreanu and Zinno to join Deeb and Campbell and build a stack for Day 2. Negreanu had cashed in a previous flight but came up short in the end and would have suffered the same fate again if he had lost the flip with ace-king against the pocket eights of Czech WSOP bracelet winner Lukas Zaskodny. However, a king appeared on the flop and the rail that gathered around the table in the very last hand of the night had reason to celebrate

The overall chip leader after the eight starting flights is Sergii Karpov, who managed to bag 732,000 in chips all the way back on Day 1c. Following Karpov is Pierre Neuville with 720,000 in chips, who claimed the lead on the biggest starting day 1h. Neuville has been around the poker world for awhile, and although the Belgian may be creeping up there in age, now 75 years young, his poker mind is still as sharp as ever.
The poker pro and former vice president of Hasbro has already cashed in four events at the WSOP Europe and this will go down as his fifth. Neuville's most notable recorded cash, and there are plenty of them, is from back in 2015 when he finished seventh in the WSOP Main Event for over $1.2 million.
Other big stacks to return include Shalom Kadosh (717,000), Simon Burns (635,000), Yordanov Karagogov (616,000), and Zhong Chen (587,000).
Among those to bust throughout the last starting day, and as such not make it through to Day 2 on any of the flights, were such familiar names as Anson Tsang, Manuel Blaschke, Konstantinos Tsirakidis, Matous Skorepa, Elena Litvinyuk, Remi Wyrzykiewicz, Maria Lampropulos, Dorde Jovanovic and Tomas Ribeiro to name just a few.
Cards will be back in the air at 3 p.m. local time with blinds of 4,000-8,000 and a big blind ante of 8,000. As of Day 2, the level duration also increases to 40 minutes each. Don't miss anything as the final event of the WSOPE is being played out!
