Charity Series of Poker (CSOP) Heads to Rivers Casino in Schenectady, New York on August 29
The Charity Series of Poker (CSOP) has raised money for great causes around the country, and on Thursday, August 29 they’ll add a new beneficiary to the list. Poker players and supporters will have the chance to win big and help in the effort to build affordable housing as the CSOP “The House That Cards Built” Charity Event – the 24th event held by the CSOP – at Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Schenectady County.
The $250 buy-in tournament will see players compete for a $5,000 grand prize, while all proceeds will assist in the charity’s mission to build safe, decent, affordable homes and provide support services to promote successful home purchase and ownership.
"We’ve now helped raise over $1.4 million and it’s extremely fulfilling to help worthy organizations like Habitat raise enough money to fulfill their mission.”
As usual, the CSOP will offer $1,000 cash prizes to both the chip leader and the player with the most rebuys at the end of registration. Final table, bounty, and other prizes will also be awarded, along with a silent auction and 50/50 raffle. There will be a VIP reception with hors d’ oeuvres and complimentary cocktails for tournament players. Guests who aren’t playing the tournament are welcome to join the reception for a donation of $50.
“This event is special for me because my involvement with nonprofits started with Habitat for Humanity. I organized a $10 fundraiser tournament when I served as Vice President of Habitat at The College of New Jersey” said CSOP Founder Matt Stout. “Two years later I started playing poker for a living and using poker as a tool to give back on a large scale quickly became my goal. We’ve now helped raise over $1.4 million and it’s extremely fulfilling to help worthy organizations like Habitat raise enough money to fulfill their mission.”
The CSOP’s The House That Cards Built tournament, which is open to the public, will take place in the Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady Event Center. Check-in begins at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 29 with the reception starting at 6 p.m. The tournament itself will get underway at 8 p.m.
Speaking of the tournament, players will start with 5,000 in chips with the option to add an extra 5,000 for $100. There will also be an additional add-on during the first break where players can receive an additional 10,000 in tournament chips for $100 with additional proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity.
