APPT Manila

PokerStars Live at Okada Manila in the beautiful Philippines is preparing to host the 2019 Asian Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Manila festival that is sure to attract some of Asia’s biggest names and best poker players.

APPT Manila runs from Jul. 26 through to Aug. 4, during which time four huge no-limit hold’em tournaments are scheduled to take place.

The first of these blockbuster events is the APPT Kickoff, a two-day event running from Jul. 26-27 that costs ₱16,000 (approx. $310) to enter and features a ₱3 million ($58,600) guaranteed prize pool. This same event last year cost slightly less at ₱15,000 and attracted a field of 844 entries who were outlasted by Mongolia’s Tsolmon Ochir who banked ₱1,541,000 ($29,035).

Following on from the APPT Kickoff is the APPT National from Jul. 28-29. This ₱33,000 ($645) buy-in event has ₱5 million ($97,700) guaranteed, but the 2018 edition saw the prize pool swell to ₱21,711,510 ($409,277) when 829 entries were processed. That big field was topped by local player Marc Rivera who walked away with ₱4,559,000 ($85,940).

Then there is the ₱500,000 ($9,770) buy-in Super High Roller, a new edition to the schedule. As a guide as to what to expect, there was a ₱200,000 ($3,900) High Roller last year that ended in a heads-up chop between Hon Cheong Lee and Sahil Agarwal who walked away with ₱4,676,260 ($88,024) and ₱4,656,260 ($87,647) respectively after navigating their way through 124 entries.

It is the APPT Manila Main Event that is the show-piece tournament. The ₱65,000 ($1,269) buy-in ₱20 million ($391,000) guaranteed tournament proved hugely popular in 2018 when 1,364 entries created a ₱65,492,460 ($1,236,204) prize pool. The lion’s share of that princely sum went to Wilson Lim of Singapore, namely ₱12,970,000 ($244,815).
