Triton Poker Promises The Biggest Buy-in in Poker History in 2019
Triton Poker has announced its first festival of 2019 will take place at Jeju Landing Casino in South Korea on March 2 to 9 for nosebleed short deck and no-limit hold'em tournaments and cash games. This festival will mark a milestone as the tenth one in its history.
While the full schedule will be released at a later date, Triton Poker released a sneak peek in a video that should bring excitement around the poker world with a promise that one of the tournaments will be "The Biggest Buy-In in Poker History."
We can only guess how high the buy-in will be. But in order for it to be the biggest-ever, the buy-in will need to exceed the multiple $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop tournaments during the WSOP in Las Vegas including this year's event won by Justin Bonomo for a cool $10,000,000.
It is unclear whether it would also have to exceed the €1,000,000 of the Big One for One Drop Extravaganza held in Monte Carlo won by Elton Tsang for €11,111,111 ($12,248,912) in 2016, as this event was only open to players that were invited by the event organizers with many big-name poker pros locked out.
Triton Poker also announced four other stops will take place in May, July, September, and November with locations to be announced in the future.
A Look Back at Triton Poker Super Series in 2018
This year was a huge one for the Triton Poker Super Series. In May, the festival visited Maestral Resort & Casino in Budva, Montenegro with events featuring buy-ins as high as HKD 1,000,000 ($127,500).
A couple of months later in July, the festival headed off to Jeju Landing Casino with the top event buy-ins doubled to HKD 2,000,000 ($255,000). Other Triton Poker events also took place at the Sochi Casino and Resort in Russia in coordination with the partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Russia poker festival in October.
Triton Poker attracted big names throughout the year including Patrik Antonius, Phil Ivey, Jason Koon, Nick Schulman, and Sam Greenwood. However, it was Belarus' Mikita Badziakouski becoming the star of the year after winning back to back Triton Poker Super Series Main Events in Montenegro and South Korea for a combined haul of $7,756,211.
Last year also produced some of the most memorable cash game hands ever live streamed including the hand where Jason Koon won a pot of €2,090,000 off Elton Tsang in no-limit hold'em with blinds of €2,000/€4,000 and a big blind ante of €10,000 in Montenegro.
