Global Poker Index: Alex Foxen Leads Both POY Race & Overall Rankings
Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a player's results over six half-year periods. The last time we looked in on the Global Poker Index rankings at the start of October, the story had been pretty much the same as it had been for the previous three months, with Stephen Chidwick the one owning the headlines as both the 2018 GPI Player of the Year frontrunner and leader in the overall rankings.

It's a new month, and there's a new GPI leader to discuss. During the second week of October, Alex Foxen leaped past Chidwick to move into first in the GPI POY race, and now he's the one who has enjoyed a four-week run at No. 1.
Foxen made the move after collecting points for his runner-up finish in the partypoker MILLIONS Dusk Till Dawn Main Event won by Ioannis Angelou-Konstas. Since then he's added another final table at the ongoing World Series of Poker Europe, with that cash pushing his total tournament earnings to just under $4 million for the year.
There has been only minor shuffling among the rest of the Top 10 since a month ago, with nine of the same names on the list. Michael Soyza dropped off, having slipped from No. 10 to No. 11, with Benjamin Pollak the new name at No. 8 after having been No. 13 four weeks ago.

Foxen likewise took over the No. 1 spot in the overall rankings since the last update, having now been the top-ranked tournament player in the world for the last four weeks while opening a decent-sized lead over the chase pack.
Having hovered near the bottom of the Top 100 a year-and-a-half ago, Foxen entered 2018 just outside of the Top 10, and after inching upwards throughout the year has become the 19th different player to top the overall GPI rankings since their introduction in 2011.
Justin Bonomo moved back up to No. 2, still his career highest ranking. In fact, Bonomo has been at No. 2 on 12 different occasions this year in the weekly updates after having reached that peak for the first time in June 2017. Don't feel too bad for Bonomo, though, as his more than $25 million won in tournaments this year places him far in front on the 2018 Money List.
Former GPI leader David Peters now sits at No. 3 after collecting a couple of WSOPE cashes, including a runner-up finish in the €100,000 Super High Roller won by Martin Kabrhel.
The only new name in the Top 10 is Jason Koon, having moved up to No. 10 to replace Sam Greenwood.
Also worth noting, Shaun Deeb has collected four cashes in Rozvadov at the WSOPE, not only solidifying his spot atop the 2018 WSOP Player of the Year rankings but helping him move up over the last week from No. 23 to No. 12.
