Triton Poker

Triton Poker takes its Super High Roller Series to Jeju in South Korea for 10 days starting July where an action-packed schedule sees five events take place, including three ante-only short-deck poker tournaments.

Short-deck poker, otherwise known as Six-Plus hold’em, is a relatively new yet extremely exciting game where all deuces through fives are removed from the deck. This creates a unique new game where flushes are stronger than full houses and three-of-a-kind trumps a straight! As you can imagine, short-deck poker keeps the players thinking and creates plenty of action.

The three short-deck events at the Triton Super High Roller Series Jeju festival are played as ante-only. None of the players post a blind in the traditional sense; instead, everyone who receives hole cards pays an ante and the size of the ante increases at regular intervals, just like the blinds increasing in a standard tournament. This, coupled with the stripped deck of cards, means many pots are contested multi-way as everyone has already paid to receive their cards.

July 25 sees a massive HKD 500,000 (approx. $64,000) ante-only short-deck event commence, with the third and final short-deck event running from July 28-29 with a gargantuan buy-in of HKD 1,000,000 (approx. $127,000).

Stellar Names Head to Jeju

The Jeju festivals comes after a hugely successful series held in Montenegro where some of poker’s elite grinders walked away with seven-figure scores from the short-deck events.

partypoker Ambassador and all-round nice guy Jason Koon triumphed in the HKD 1,000,000 buy-in event and banked the largest cash of his career, namely HKD 28,102,000 (approx. $3,579,836), while the legendary Phil Ivey shipped the HKD 250,000 (approx. $32,000) buy-in event for a cool HKD 4,749,200 (approx. $604,977).

Both Koon and Ivey are thought to be heading to South Korea for the latest installment of the Triton Super High Roller series and are likely to be flanked by the likes of Daniel “jungleman” Cates, founder Richard Yong, and Montenegro Main Event champion Mikita Badziouski.

PokerNews’ live reporting team will be on the ground through the Jeju festival, while all events will be streamed on Twitch with commentary from Randy Lew, Lex Veldhius and Chen An Lin.
