Sunday Briefing: Joseph Cheong Wins PokerStars Sunday Supersonic
Joseph Cheong tweeted that he is heading to the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure for the first time in a few years and said, possibly tongue in cheek, that there’s nothing like starting the year in a $70,000 hole. That "hole" is now $30,939 less after the popular pro took down the $215 Sunday Supersonic online at PokerStars on Jan. 7.
Cheong, playing as his famous “subiime” moniker, was one of 915 entrants in the six-max hyper-turbo tournament, a tournament that took only two hours and 23 minutes to complete. Cheong locked horns with partypoker’s Kristen “krissyb24” Bicknell, heads up for the title, and he was the player to come out on top, resigning Bicknell to the $22,021 consolation prize.
This latest victory was Cheong’s 104th in online poker circles and it takes his lifetime online winnings to more than $3.16 million, according to PocketFives.com.
Another player winning big was “BillLewinsky” of the Netherlands. The Dutchman triumphed over a field of 800 players in Winter Series 38 - High: $1,050 NLHE 8-Max Turbo Progressive KO for a massive haul of $121,686 ($54,464 came from bounties.)
BillLewinsky overcame a final table that homed the likes of Robin “robinho” Ylitalo (who amazingly never claimed one bounty), Simon “C. Darwin2” Mattsson and his heads-up opponent “True Pokah” of Latvia.
