“josef_shvejk” Wins Anniversary Edition of the 888poker Mega Deep
The $215 Mega Deep tournament at 888poker celebrated its fifth anniversary on Nov. 27, and as part of the celebrations, its guarantee was increased to $500,000.
Any fears of the massive guarantee not being hit were soon dispelled when 2,151 entries, including 940 rebuys, were processed and an impressive prize pool of $614,200 created. Some 13 hours and 31 minutes after the first hole cards landed on the virtual felt, Russia’s “josef_shvejk” emerged victorious and scooped $95,333.55.
The Russian’s prize could have been slightly larger, but a deal was struck when the tournament was three-handed that made the jumps in pay less drastic. Runner-up Egor “Omfg72oAgain” Boriskin collected $61,255.38 and third place's “comant76” walked away with a bankroll-boosting $66,058.57.

A total of 252 places were paid so spare a thought for Germany’s “miklosbern” who fell in 253rd place to burst the money bubble and become the final player not to receive any prize money for their efforts.
Some of those to reach the money places included Carl “SwansFC_CJ” Johns, “carpediem14”, Manig “swordfish070” Loeser, “Leqenden”, Oliver “threebunpass” Price, Conor “grandma1954” Beresford, Sergio “zcedrick” Aido, Giovanni “gioriz” Rizzo and 888poker Ambassador Dominik “888Dominik” Nitsche.
Nitsche has enjoyed several deep runs at 888poker since signing as a brand ambassador. Earlier this year in June, Nitsche won the $150,000 Super XL Mini Main Event for $36,542. The talented German then finished third in September’s Super XL Series Main Event for a $206,400 score. Sadly for Nitsche and his Twitch followers, his run in this latest tournament ended with a 19th-place finish worth $2,275.54.
“The tournament was great and I'm very happy we had such a big one 888poker," Nitsche said to the 888poker Magazine. "The buy-in was only $200+$15 and first price was close to $100,000. That's amazing and I hope there will be more of those events in the future as people really like them.”
There are plenty of chances to win big at 888poker throughout the week, but keep your calendar open between Jan. 19 and Jan. 31 because that is when the $5 million guaranteed Super XL Series will take place.
