The World Poker Tour announced Wednesday the launch of PlayWPT, a social casino platform that includes both poker and slot offerings.

"Unlike other social poker sites, the in-game currency at PlayWPT is strategically limited, creating a more competitive environment and ultimately a more authentic poker experience," the company said in a press release. "Players can enjoy nonstop action around the clock in the various ring games, tournaments and sit-n-gos, and players can represent themselves at the table with lively, hand-drawn avatars in addition to dozens of innovative, animated emojis."

PlayWPT is already available worldwide for players to access via desktop computer and Facebook. A mobile component is planned for launch in the coming months, with players integrating their playing experience through multiple platforms on a single account. The WPT already operates the subscription-based, free-to-play ClubWPT.

The development of PlayWPT comes just over a year after the WPT was acquired by Ourgame International Holdings Ltd., a Hong Kong-based social gaming giant with a player base of over 500 million.

“The PlayWPT platform is the foundation for WPT’s revolutionary approach to the social casino gaming space,” said WPT CEO and President Adam Pliska. “Alongside Ourgame, WPT can now develop more products at a faster rate with the best features and functions available, allowing WPT to fully leverage its already established global distribution channels, which reach hundreds of millions of potential customers worldwide.”
