Charlie Carrel Wins a WCOOP; Rick Trigg Secures a Six-Figure Score
Earlier this week, UK & Ireland PokerNews highlighted some of the biggest scores enjoyed by players calling the United Kingdom home in the 2016 World Championship Of Online Poker (WCOOP). Today we have a few more excellent results, including a six-figure score for Rick “ThEcLaiMEer” Trigg, and a first WCOOP title for Charlie “Epiphany77” Carrel.
Carrel entered WCOOP Event 31: $215 No Limit Hold’em Rebuy along with 772 opponents. This 773-strong field made 512 rebuys, purchased 612 add-ons, and created a $385,091 prize pool which was shared among the top 98 finishers.
At the end of the 25th level, the tournament paused with only 18 players remaining, Carrel finding himself sixth in chips and with a real shot of a WCOOP title. By the time the final table was reached, Carrel was third from nine in terms of chips and there was little doubt the talented youngster was going to walk away with the lion’s share of the prize pool.
One by one the finalists fell by the wayside, including the Polish sensation that is Dmitry “Colisea” Urbanovich in fifth place. When Kurt “kurt23x” Fitzgerald bust in third place, Carrel and Brazilian Luciasno “Luciano S.H” Santos de Hollanda agreed upon a deal that split the remaining prize pool, leaving $7,702 extra for the eventual champion.
Those additional funds are now with Carrel because the first major hand after the deal was struck, the chips went into the middle of the table preflop, Carrel holding J♣J♠ and Luciano S.H the A♦K♠. The 10♦6♠2♥ flop was safe for Carrel’s jacks, as was the 10♥ turn, and when the river came the 8♥, Carrel had secured his first WCOOP title and a cool $60,040.79 in cash.
Carrel is one of poker’s brightest rising stars. Having built a $500,000 bankroll from a tiny deposit mostly playing cash games at partypoker, Carrel turned to tournament poker with immediate success.
A win in the Sunday Rebuy at PokerStars for $45,000 and a runner-up finish in the Sunday Million for more than $200,000 came in 2014, then Carrel took the live poker scene by storm, winning the 2014 GUKPT Grand Final, the EPT Grand Final €25K High Roller (for €1.114 million) and the EPT Dublin Single Day High Roller.
This is definitely not the last we have seen of Mr Carrel.
Trigg Secures His Largest-Ever Online Cash
While Carrel is a relative newcomer to the world of online poker, Rick Trigg, at 32 years old, is something of a seasoned veteran. With almost $6.7 million in online winnings from almost 50,000 tournaments played, Trigg is one of the most experienced players in the game today.
Until the early hours of Sept. 15, 2016, Trigg’s largest cash weighed in at $102,296, his reward for a fourth place finish in the $2,100 No-Limit Hold’em Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) event in 2011.
Now the Sheffield-based grinder has a $115,069.18 score to brag about after navigating his way to fourth place from a field of 1,215 in the WCOOP edition of the Super Tuesday, an excellent result.
Finishing one place above Trigg was another player with a Union Jack next to their name, “reno8.” They collected $176,000 after a three-way deal, with the eventual champion, “€urop€an,” banking a massive $297,450 for his victory.
