2016 PokerNews Cup

Are you like us here at PokerNews HQ, bursting with excitement for the 2016 PokerNews Cup? Well, the wait is almost over because on the evening of August 10, the King’s Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic comes alive with poker players from around Europe, all hoping to bag some cash in at least one of the seven events on the 2016 PokerNews Cup schedule.

Kicking off this spectacular six-day festival is a €110 buy-in no-limit hold’em event known as the PokerNews Cup Opening. This tournament has a €10,000 guaranteed prize pool, and you can reenter twice should Lady Luck not be shining down on you from the word go.

The most eagerly anticipated tournament on the schedule has to be the 2016 PokerNews Cup Main Event, not least because it gives players the opportunity to turn a €250 investment into a share of a guaranteed €250,000.

With four starting flights, the first of which takes place at 4:00 p.m. local time on August 11, and re-entry available on each of the Day 1s, you have plenty of chances to get involved in Europe’s must-play low buy-in tournament of the year.

When the PokerNews Cup ran last at King’s Casino in November 2015, 820 players bought into the €200,000 guaranteed Main Event. Only 16 of those players we still in contention for the title when the tournament progressed to Day 3, and three hours later Daniel Can was crowned champion.

The reason for the speedy final day was that the nine players who reached the final table decided to split the remaining prize money between them. Each of the nine finalists walked away with between €9,814 and €17,105 for their efforts, with Can taking the largest prize and the coveted PokerNews Cup trophy.

What Can You Expect From the 2016 PokerNews Cup?

In addition to some excellent tournaments with small buy-ins yet large guarantees, you’ll find cash games running around the clock in the vast King’s Casino poker room. All stakes are catered for, so if you bust from PokerNews Cup or side events, and don’t fancy any more tournament action, you can satisfy your cash game needs at any time of the day or night.

You’ll also find an eclectic mix of professional and recreational poker players to talk to and play against. The €200,000 guaranteed PokerNews Cup attracts some talented players hoping for a big payday but is also the perfect tournament for newer players to delve into the world of live poker due to the relatively small buy-in.

At the 2015 PokerNews Cup, Hungary’s Attila Toth-Madi headed to the King’s Casino to play in his first-ever live tournament. Toth-Madi chose the opening event to begin his live poker career, and it turned out to be a great decision because he won it for €2,607 then used his new bankroll to play every other event on the schedule!

You’ll also have the chance to meet the PokerNews Live Reporting team as they’ll be on hand to provide their usual excellent coverage from the tournament floor. You could even mingle with them in the bar or the exclusive a-la-carte restaurant if they ever take a break from reporting on the action!
