Meet PokerStars' Longest-Serving Player

PokerStars first launched its online poker room almost 15 years ago on Sept. 11, 2001. However, players were able to sign-up for an account before the official launch.

One such player was Sweden's Frank Öberg who signed up for a PokerStars account on Sept. 5, 2001 choosing the screenname "SpicyF" due to his love of the British girl band, the Spice Girls.

With Öberg still playing on the world's largest real-money online poker room to this day, the PokerStars Blog post titled Meet PokerStars' Longest-Serving Player of All Time reports that this makes him the person who has been playing on the site for the longest period of time. The blog discusses Öberg's history in the game in vast detail, including how he got interested in the game playing with friends back in 1996.

The History of Texas Hold’em

Texas hold'em is by far the most popular variant in poker. However, this wasn't always the case.

PokerNews editor and partypoker blogger Matthew Pitt talks about the history of Texas hold'em and how it grew into the widely-played game it is today in a blog titled The History of Texas Hold’em: The Cadillac of Poker.

Pitt discussed how poker legend Doyle Brunson was part of a team of players to introduce the game to Las Vegas back in 1967, with for many years the Golden Nugget Casino being the only place that offered the game. He also discussed how the World Series of Poker, Californian poker rooms, and the hole-card camera all helped advance the game.
