Qualifiers, Regulars & Familiar Faces Get Ready For PokerNews Cup
In nine days from now, the King's Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic will welcome the ninth edition of the PokerNews Cup, one of the best low buy-in events in Europe.
The very same rooms that are now hosting the Czech Republic's first-ever World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) festival will be soon filled by hundreds of amateurs and beginners ready to fight for a share of a €200,000 guaranteed prize pool in the €250 Main Event.
For the second time in 2015, players will enjoy a week of great action inside Europe's biggest poker room while discovering what it's like to play in a truly international live poker event.
Back in February, 1,550 players showed up to the King's Casino to play. After an intense weekend, Germany's Christian Krupp managed to win the title and take home the €57,473 first-place prize.
The PokerNews Cup is about playing poker as much as it is about getting together and having a good time.
While it's unclear whether or not Krupp will be at the event to defend his title, many of the players in the field, like Italy's Claudio Varalli, will be returning to the PokerNews Cup. "I discovered the PokerNews Cup in 2014 at the Montesino Casino in Wien, and I can't wait to be in Rozvadov for the next one," Varalli told PokerNews.
"We are not talking about an EPT nor a WPT, I think people should know that. The PokerNews Cup is about playing poker as much as it is about getting together and having a good time. In other words: it's not about playing against sharks and risking a bankroll in one event. It's about enjoying a poker event," Varalli continued.
"I really liked the atmosphere I found at Montesino and I loved the fact that I could play with people from all over the Continent for just €250. That's why I am going back again."
Like Varalli, local university student Tomas Kadlec decided to give the PokerNews Cup another shot - although things did not go very well for him in February. "Last time I busted on the first day, so I think this time it will be easy for me to do better than that," Kadlec explained. "I go to play at King's very often as it's not far from Prague and the action there is just crazy. Should I bust again like last time, I will hit the cash games - maybe I will have more luck there!"
As usual, the field will also include a number of online qualifiers who managed to win a seat by playing in the events organized by both partypoker and Redbet.
Ukraine's Inna Ohorodnyk, Sweden's Hampus Tångsten, and Azerbaijan's Kanan Hajiyev are among those who will head to King's looking to turn their package into their first HendonMob entry.
Amazingly, the list of this year's online qualifiers once again includes Attila Toth-Madi, the 38-year old food manager from Hungary that seems to win just about every contest on PokerNews.
Toth-Madi, who plays online as "tesco77" is a known name in the PokerNews community as he represented the site at the World Series of Poker after winning a package at 888poker, and has already cashed once during a PokerNews Cup event, as he closed the 2014 Main Event in 31st place for $751.
The event will be blogged live by the PokerNews Live Reporting Team, so you definitely don't want to miss it, and the good news is you can still try to qualify for the Main Event through a series of live events with buy-ins starting from €30 that will run at the King's Casino later this month.
