Huge Start at WPT Choctaw: Westbrook Tops 4,493 Entries, $2M Championship Starts July 31
The World Poker Tour event at Choctaw Casino Resort has started with a bang, and there's still plenty of time to get in on the action. After kicking off the series at the only AAA Four Diamond resort in the state on Thursday, July 16, the festivities are well underway and approaching fast is the $2 Million Guaranteed WPT Championship Event that will begin on Friday, July 31.
For a $3,700 buy-in, players will start with 30,000 in chips and reentry is available. Registration will remain open until the start of Day 2, and those who get knocked out may reenter as long as it remains open. The Championship Event will conclude Tuesday, Aug. 4, with the televised final table.
Other than the $3,700 Championship Event, there are plenty of poker options on the schedule with events and satellites running daily.
On the event's schedule, July 29 and 30 are listed as "satellite days" and there will be plenty of chances for you to win a seat into the Championship Event to fight for a share of the $2 million guaranteed prize pool. For complete satellite information, click here.
Of note, July 29 and 30 will have two super satellites with more than one seat guaranteed — one with 10 seats and one with five seats. The 10-seat guarantee super satellite has a $120 buy-in and will take place at 11 a.m. local time on both days. The five-seat guarantee super satellite has a $130 buy-in and will take place at 5 p.m. local time on both days.

The $500,000 Guaranteed $350 Monster Stack event kicks off on Friday, July 24 and will feature four starting flights. The first two will take place on Friday, and the second two will follow on Saturday, July 25. Like the Championship Event, the Monster Stack tournament also features a reentry format, and players will be allowed to reenter after busting through Level 8 of each starting flight.
Along with the Championship Event and Monster Stack, there are eight other feature events available for play, ranging in buy-ins of $120 to $2,100.
As an example of just how big the fields have been at Choctaw, the third event on the schedule — the $200,000 Guaranteed No-Limit Hold'em — attracted a massive 4,943 entries over two starting days and four starting flights. Emerging victorious was John Westbrook (pictured) from Garland, Texas. He took home $66,999 after defeating fellow Texan Ronald Miller in second place.
Choctaw Casino Resort is currently growing to become a regional tourist destination, with three phases of expansion. The first phase is now open and includes a multi-purpose, three-level convention/entertainment venue with seating for over 3,000 guests and over 100,000 square feet of meeting and convention space and a renovated Oasis pool area, an outdoor paradise with four tropical pools, three spas and private cabanas for rent, as well as activities for children.
The second phase will open in July and includes Parrot Beach Bar & Grill. The third and final phase is scheduled for September and includes a new hotel tower and the Spa Tower, which will bring the total number of rooms to approximately 700.
