Season 5 of Mid-States Poker Tour Returns to Meskwaki Casino in Tama, Iowa 0001

After a summer break, Season 5 of the Mid-States Poker Tour is back with another stop in Tama, Iowa. From July 19-27, Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel will play host to the MSPT, which includes numerous qualifiers and a $1,100 buy-in Main Event featuring a $300,000 guaranteed prize pool, from Friday, July 25-27.

Meskwaki is traditionally one of the most successful stops on the MSPT schedule, which is due in part to participants only having to be 18 years old to play.

“The MSPT is excited to return to Meskwaki, which always draws players from around the Midwest,” said MSPT owner and operator Bryan Mileski. “We’re looking forward to following up our first stop in Las Vegas by returning to Iowa for another successful stop at Meskwaki, which in the past has attracted local pros Jeff Fielder and Blair Hinkle. With a little luck, we’ll set yet another state record.”

The series will begin with two MSPT Main Event qualifiers on Saturday. The first will be held at 12 p.m. and have a buy-in of $120. The second will be held at 6 p.m. with a buy-in of $250. In the first, the top 10 percent will advance to the MSPT Main Event, whereas the top 20 percent will advance from the second.

There are also several Meskwaki Casino Bonus Events:

  • $60 Pot-Limit Omaha (+$5 option dealer add-on) at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 20
  • $110 No-Limit Hold’em (+$10 optional dealer add-on) at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 21
  • $20 No-Limit Hold’em (+$5 optional dealer add-on) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22

In the 2013 season, Meskwaki played host to three stops with top prizes of $87,694 (Terry Ring), $88,958 (Andrew VanBlair), and $81,060 (Jesse Spooner) awarded in each. The average prize pool at these three events in 2013 was over $320,000. More recently, Matthew Anderson topped a record field of 389 players, which included defeating MSPT-sponsored pro Matt Kirby in heads-up play, back in April to win a whooping $100,085 first-place prize.

“I’m looking forward to getting back on the felt at Meskwaki with the goal of winning my first MSPT bracelet,” MSPT Lead Pro Blake Bohn previously said of the Meskwaki stop. “It's been on my annual goal list since Bryan Mileski launched the tour in 2010.”

The Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel is located in Tama, Iowa, between Des Moines and Cedar Rapids on Highway 30. With a huge bingo hall, table games, active craps tables, good blackjack games, horse book, indoor pool, exercise room, spa, and a large number of hotel rooms, Meskwaki has something for everyone.

The most common cash game in the room is $1/$2 no-limit hold’em, but a juicy $5/$10 pot-limit Omaha game gets going every time the MSPT rolls into town.
