Sunday marked one of the biggest days of the year on the virtual poker felt, and nobody capitalized more than Sweden's Alexander "Sussie Smith" Roumeliotis. The high-stakes heads-up specialist took down the $21,000 buy-in Heads-Up High Roller at the PokerStarsSpring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP), besting a field of 41 that included the likes of Phil Ivey, Philipp Gruissem, Ike Haxton, Phil Galfond, Viktor Blom and Jason Mercier.
Roumeliotis (pictured) defeated Canada's "carrycakes" heads-up to claim the $294,175 top prize. Also finishing in the money were Ole "wizowizo" Schemion, Rachid Ben "SkaiWalkurrr" Cherif, Talal "raidalot" Shakerchi, and nosebleed cash game regular "Trueteller."
Roumeliotis could have taken his huge score and called it a day, but he continued his online grind in Event 45: NL Hold'em Wrap-Up Turbo Re-Entry, where he ultimately reached the final table. After a five-way deal that secured another $173,636 for Roumeliotis, the Swede bowed out in fifth place. His two deep runs resulted in close to $470,000 in earnings in less than 24 hours at the tables.
Among the other notables who found success on Sunday were Connor "blanconegro" Drinnan, Konstantin “BongBob” Bücherl, Steven "Zugwat" Silverman, Toby "810ofclubs" Lewis, and Lukas "Lukethafluke" Berglund.
The $10,300 SCOOP-High Main Event also got underway on Sunday. A field of 657 players generated a prize pool of $6,570,000, and a massive $1,235,160 will go to the winner on Monday. Sixty survivors will return on Monday at 2 p.m. ET to play down to a champion, including Calvin Anderson, Mike McDonald, Shannon Shorr, Taylor Paur, Eugene Katchalov, Phil Ivey, Keven Stammen, Ben Lamb, and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier. We'll have a full recap of the SCOOP Main Event after the completion of play on Tuesday.
