PokerStars.it EPT10 Sanremo Day 1b: David

Season 10 of the European Poker Tour continued on Tuesday with Day 1b action from PokerStars.it EPT Sanremo Main Event playing out at Casino Sanremo on the Italian Riviera. The second starting flight attracted 381 runners, which along with Day 1a’s 175 brings the total field up to 556, though that number is sure to go up as registration is open until the start of Day 2.

After eight 75-minute levels of play, David "MissOracle" Yan bagged up 179,100 to finish as the chip leader of the advancing 226 players. They, along with the survivors from Day 1a, will return at Noon local time on Wednesday for Day 2 action. Yan, who has been featured in our popular Online Chat series, shot to the top of the chip counts after winning one of the last hands of the night.

Here’s a look at some notable chip counts from Day 1b:

PlayerCount
[Removed:17]179,100
Andrey Lobzhanidze172,800
Pierluigi Giglio163,800
Juri Mereu147,000
Jamie Roberts144,700
Tobias Hagedorn143,900
Gaelle Baumann130,500
Federico Petruzzelli129,400
Johnny Lodden122,800
Jeffrey Hakim122,100

The first elimination of the day came in Level 1 (50/100), and it happened when, after a raise to 300 and three callers, Olivier Busquet made it 1,600 in the big blind. Three players called to see the Jx6x3x flop with two clubs. Busquet continued for 2,500 and only Italy’s Gianluca Trebbi made the call to see the 9 turn. Another 6,000 from Busquet was called before the Jx on the river delivered quads for the high stakes pro. He moved all in for 20,000 and Trebbi tank-called with the 86 only to discover the bad news.

Trebbi may have been the first to go, but he was far from the last. Among those to hit the rail on Day 1b were Gyeong Tae Yoo, Mustapha Kanit, Casey Kastle, and current EPT Player of the Year Leader Ole Schemion.

The German fell on just the fifth hand he played when he five-bet preflop and made a small continuation bet on the 9x6x5x flop before moving all in after the 10x turn. Schemion held pocket aces and got looked up by Spaniard Raul Mestre, who held the 9x10x. A blank on the river and that was it for Schemion. Interestingly, Schemion's elimination opens the door for Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst, who currently sits second on the leaderboard, to make up some ground as she survived Day 1a.

Of course the eliminations didn't stop with Schemion. Plenty of other notables hit the rail as the day progressed including Max Pescatori, Govert Metaal, Jacobus Visser, Elisabeth Hille, Josh Prager, Team Online's Marc-Andre Ladouceur, and the defending champ Ludovic Lacay.

Of course not everyone was so unfortunate. Among those who survived Day 1b were Team PokerStars Pros Johnny Lodden (122,800), Vicky Coren (94,000), Mickey Petersen (61,800), Nacho Barbero (13,400), and Victor Ramdin (9,200), just to name a few.

They will be joined by notables such as Raul Mestre (106,000), Paul Berende (81,600), Martin Jacobson (80,500), Olivier Busquet (72,700), Michael Telker (71,200), Jonathan Karamalikis (59,800), Michael Tureniec (39,100), Jason Lavallee (29,900), Steve O’Dwyer (26,300), and Toby Lewis (26,300).

As previously mentioned, Day 2 is set to kick off at Noon local time on Wednesday. The plan for the day is to play six more 75-minute levels. Of course the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on hand to bring you all the latest and greatest from the Casino Sanremo.
