2012 World Poker Tour $100,000 Super High Roller Day 2: Daniel Perper Leads Final Table
Day 2 of the $100,000 Super High Roller at the 2012 World Poker Tour World Championship was completed on Thursday and the televised final table has been set. Finishing on top of the final six players was Daniel Perper with 3.415 million in chips.
When the day began, two more players jumped into the mix thanks to this event having a re-entry format. Sorel Mizzi was a brand new player to buy-in while Clemenceau Calixto re-entered after having busted on Day 1. That brought the total field size to 34 entries and the top five spots were set to be paid from the $3.315 million prize pool. Fifth place was set at $263,160 and the winner will receive just over $1.3 million plus a seat into the 2013 WPT World Championship worth $25,500.
As the day wore on, big names were hitting the rail left and right. Some of those eliminated early were the aforementioned Mizzi, Jason Mercier, Dan Shak and Isaac Haxton. Mercier was one of three players to fire in a second bullet and busted during Level 12 with the blinds at 6,000/12,000/2,000.
According to the WPT Live Updates Team, it was Brian Hastings who delivered the final blow to Mercier. Mercier had opened to 24,000 from the cutoff seat and Hastings re-popped it to 55,000 on the button. Action moved back to Mercier and he reraised all in for approximately 340,000. Hastings called with the A♦K♥. Mercier was dominated with the A♣J♦. The flop, turn and river ran out 10♠8♠7♠K♣2♣ and Mercier was out the door for a second time.
The big story on the day proved to be Justin Bonomo. He constantly was at the top of the counts and surely the player everyone was keeping their eyes on. It wasn't too long ago that Bonomo won The PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final €100,000 Super High Roller to the tune of €1.64 million. That same week at the EPT Grand Final he also took 28th in the Main Event and fourth in the €25,000 High Roller. Needless to say, he's having quite the year.
Bonomo did the deed of busting the final player of the day to officially set the televised final table. He busted Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge winner Dan Smith in seventh place during Level 17 with the blinds up to 20,000/40,000/4,000.
It was reported that Smith moved all in from middle position for his last 400,000 or so and Bonomo made the call from the button. Everyone else folded and Smith's 10♣9♣ was up against Bonomo's A♦10♦. The board came A♥Q♠6♣4♠J♠ to have Smith drawing dead on fourth street. He finished in seventh place for no money on Day 2 came to a close.

The televised final table will take place starting on Friday at 1600 PDT (0000 BST). The remaining six players are still not in the money and it's going to be one heck of a bubble with fifth place receiving over a quarter of a million dollars and sixth place getting nothing.
