PokerStars.com LAPT Punta del Este, Day 2: Hevroy Heads Final Table
Norwegian Karl Hevroy will take a huge chip lead into the final table of the PokerStars.com Latin American Poker Tour in Punta del Este, Uruguay, having amassed over a million chips during Day 2. When play begins on Friday, his closest competitor for the $283,500 first prize will be Angel Guillén of Mexico, with 572,000.
The 64 players who made it through Day 1 reassembled at the Mantra Resort and Casino in Uruguay to begin play just after noon on Thursday, and it took until just before midnight to determine the final nine. Early victims on Day 2 included Alex Brenes of Costa Rica, Maximilian Heinzelmann of Germany, and Leonardo Emperador of Venezuela, all of whom went out prior to the cash bubble bursting. Then, about four hours into the day, Oliver Rowe of Canada, chip leader at the beginning of Day 2, knocked out Brazilian Alberto Araujo, Jr. in 37th and the remaining players were all in the money.
More eliminations quickly ensued, with more than a dozen falling within the next couple of hours. Among those to hit the rail during that stretch was Alberto Andres Font Rytzner of Spain, who started Day 2 challenging Rowe for the chip lead, but saw his day end with a 26th-place finish.
Play concluded with Hevroy being responsible for the last three eliminations. Hevroy flopped top pair with A♣Q♦ to knock out Octavio Bernardini (Brazil) in 12th, used pocket aces to dispatch of Alejandro Bonanata (Uruguay) in 11th, and rivered a queen with Q-J to eliminate Rommer Prado (Uruguay) in 10th.
