Rafael Nadal to Play Ronaldo in "The Duel" at PokerStars on Nov. 6
Two of PokerStars’ most celebrated ambassadors – Brazilian football legend Ronaldo and 14-time tennis Grand Slam champ Rafael Nadal – are set to face off on Thursday, Nov. 6. That because Ronaldo challenged Nadal to a live heads-up match that PokerStars is billing as “The Duel.”
The match, which will be broadcasted live from London, won’t be the first time the two have met on the felt. Back in December, Nadal played his first-ever live event — the European Poker Tour Prague Charity Challenge – in the Czech Republic. Nadal squared off against five other opponents, including Ronaldo. However, it was Nadal dispatching Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu in heads-up play to win the title and raise €100,000 for charity.
“It was my first live poker tournament when I last played against Ronaldo and one year later I’m more confident with my skill level,” Nadal said. “I really enjoy playing poker and the challenge of learning as quickly as possible, so I can’t wait to get back into training on my game and to play against Ronaldo.”
To prepare for The Duel, Nadal is set to participate in “Rafa vs. The World – Round 2,” which will take place on Sept. 22 at 19.00 CET and will be aired live on YouTube and PokerStars.tv. In the promotion, players are welcome to take on Nadal at the play money six-max Zoom tables on PokerStars. Nadal will play for one hour, and for every hand he wins, he'll get a point. For every hand he loses, “The World” will get a point. If Nadal wins more hands, PokerStars will make a charitable donation. In his previous outing, Nadal squeezed out a 20-18 win.
“I challenged Rafa to a rematch after finding out he was preparing for another live poker game,” Ronaldo added. “The last time we played together Rafa won the match and it was a lot of fun. This time it will be different, though, because I have been improving on my own poker strategy and will be more prepared.”
