Reporting into the Managing Editor, you will be responsible for creating high-quality, compelling, and engaging content that captivates millions of poker enthusiasts around the world. As Editor & Live Reporter, you will contribute to the overall PokerNews end-to-end content production as a writer and live events reporter.

Editorial and commercial content will primarily involve the poker vertical, but also on occasion for casino, free games, sweeps, or other iGaming verticals, with the aim of converting readers into players to achieve our commercial objectives.

In addition, you will also produce structured SEO content as guided by the PokerNews SEO team. You have your finger on the pulse regarding all things poker and know the niche by heart.

As Live Reporter, you will support the Global Events Manager and travel across the globe to perform live reporting duties on site, and (remotely) assist with the online live reporting production where needed. The PokerNews team brings fans live coverage from the biggest poker events in the world and is the exclusive Live Reporting partner of the World Series of Poker.

US Editor & Live Reporter Executive - Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the overall PokerNews end-to-end content production by writing compelling, engaging and high-quality editorial and commercial content in line with the PokerNews tone of voice
  • Assist the SEO Specialist in providing structured SEO-content and copywriting for poker and other gaming verticals across key markets around the world
  • Attend live events across the globe to provide real-time coverage of live events as they happen
  • Conduct interviews with poker players, industry stakeholders, and relevant celebrities where applicable

Who are we looking for

We’re looking for a talented and enthusiastic writer with a knack for poker. Knowing the poker niche in and out is considered a strong plus, as is the ability to be proactive when it comes to chasing and writing up news stories.

Excellent English writing skills are a necessity, and a working knowledge of SEO and/or the ability write on a deeper strategic level is considered a plus. Additionally, previous experience of working at poker live events is also considered a plus.

The PokerNews Live Events team is expanding and looking for passionate poker writers to join our roster of live reporters. We travel the globe to bring fans live coverage of the biggest events at the most prestigious poker venues around the world. PokerNews is the exclusive live reporting partner of the World Series of Poker, plus an official live reporting partner for PokerStars and many other events worldwide.

We are currently accepting writing samples as we solidify our team leading up to the 2024 WSOP in Las Vegas. The Ideal Candidate:

  • A passion for poker and its players
  • Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written)
  • Able to work independently and be self-motivated
  • Capable of adapting and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
  • Prior writing experience is great, but we train motivated candidates
  • 21 years of age or older

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide real-time coverage of live or online poker events and series
  • Work directly with our editorial team to preview and recap events daily
  • Conduct interviews with winners and other notable poker players
  • Other opportunities to contribute editorial coverage to PokerNews
  • Available to travel to events around the world

What's In It For You?

Live reporters are compensated with a day rate on a per-event basis. You'll join a team that travels to Las Vegas in the summer, plus other events worldwide all year long to bring live updates to our readers. Additionally, PokerNews compensates live reporters for their travel time, accommodations, and living expenses throughout events.

How To Get Involved

If you think joining the PokerNews live reporting team might be right for you, submit a writing sample that meets the following criteria:

Answer the prompt: “In your own words, recap the record-breaking 2023 WSOP Main Event”.

Consider the following guidelines for your submission:

  • No more than 500 words in length
  • A short introduction with main points covered
  • Highlight a pivotal hand from the event
  • Give historical context to the field size
  • Cover the bracelet-winning moment
  • A short conclusion looking ahead to 2024
  • Your writing sample should be submitted in Word or PDF format
  • Include your name only. Other contact information is not necessary until later in the process, and we will respond via email
  • Please do not submit a CV/resume until requested
