Partypoker Launches $5 Million Guaranteed Powerfest; Begins Sunday, February 21 0001

Partypoker has revamped its online poker festival offering, renaming it Powerfest — in line with its Power Series tournaments — and upping the combined guaranteed prize pools to an impressive $5 million.

The inaugural Powerfest kicks off on Sunday, February 21, and runs through to Sunday, March, 20 during which time a total of 98 no-limit Hold’em tournaments will take place at partypoker tables. Like online festivals on other sites, the partypoker Powerfest has a wide range of buy-ins to suit players with various bankroll sizes, but partypoker has put a slightly different slant on its offering by dedicating a full week of tournaments to one of four buy-in levels.

2016 Powerfest Schedule

DatesWeekBuy-in rangeMain EventWeekly guarantee
Feb 21-Feb 28Week 1: Featherweight$5.50-$11Feb 28, $11 buy-in $50K GTD$350,000
Feb 28-Mar 6Week 2: Middleweight$22-$55Mar 6, $55 buy-in $100K GTD$650,000
Mar 6-Mar 13Week 3: Heavyweight$109-$215Mar 13, $215 buy-in $500K GTD$1,805,000
Mar 13-Mar 20Week 4: High Roller$530-$5,200Mar 20, $1,050 buy-in $500K GTD$2,200,000

Each week is dedicated to either Featherweight, Middleweight, Heavyweight, or High Roller events, with a Main Event completing each week’s action. It is an interesting idea as those players who perform well in the lower buy-ins are more likely to take a shot at the higher buy-in tournaments later in the series.

Partypoker has been pushing its new tournament schedule for the past few weeks, gradually increasing the guarantees with promotions such as Fight Night, which saw three of its most popular tournaments double their guarantees; Fight Night Round 2 takes place on Saturday, February 6 and sees the $5.50 buy-in Jab, the $22 buy-in Contender, and the $109 buy-in Uppercut have their guarantees doubled to $20,000, $40,000, and $100,000 respectively.

This push continues during Powerfest with tournaments such as a $25,000 guaranteed reentry costing only $5.50 to enter on February 21, a $40,000 guaranteed bounty tournament costing $55 to enter on March 2, a $250,000 guaranteed event costing $109 to enter on March 6, and a huge $500,000 guaranteed High Roller costing $5,200 to enter on March 20.

Head to Vegas With the Tournament of Champions

Instead of running a festival-long leaderboard, partypoker is opting for a Tournament of Champions concept. Each Powerfest tournament winner receives an entry to the Tournament of Champions where everyone is guaranteed at least a $5.50 Jab tournament entry. The prizes increase in value right up to a $5,000 Las Vegas package for the eventual overall champion.

The Tournament of Champions winner walks away with:

  • $1,000 spending money
  • An entry to the WPT500 at Aria
  • Five nights accommodation for two people
  • Dinner with partypoker ambassador Mike Sexton
  • A signed copy of Mike Sexton’s new book, Life’s a Gamble
  • A pair of boxing gloves signed by four-time world champion boxer, Carl Froch
  • A custom-made Tournament of Champions winner’s belt
