MSPT Golden Gates in Colorado Kicks Off Friday; $200K Main Event Nov. 13-16

This weekend, the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) will hold its latest $1,100 Main Event at Meskwaki Casino in Tama, Iowa; however, Friday also marks the start of the stop at Golden Gates Casino in Blackhawk, Colorado, which will run from Nov. 7-16 and culminate in a $200,000 guaranteed $1,100 buy-in Main Event beginning with Day 1a on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 12 p.m.

Unlike most MSPT stops, the one at Golden Gates will be held over four days instead of three. Day 1a will play 14 levels, and then Days 1b and 1c, which will be held at the same time on Friday and Saturday, will play the same. The surviving players from each flight will then combine on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. and play until a champion is crowned.

The Main Event final table will be broadcast on a 15-minute delay with hole cards on both MSPTPoker.com and PokerNews using RFID technology. In addition, the PokerNews Live Reporting team will be on hand to capture all the action in our live blog, and players will be able to utilize our patented MyStack App which will allow them to directly update their chip counts in the PokerNews blog using their iPhone or Android phone.

The MSPT visited Golden Gates Casino for the first time back in March. In that tournament, Dan Colpoys topped a field of 453 entrants — who created a prize pool of $453,000 — to capture the $114,156 first-place prize.

“I have been following the MSPT for a while now and seen all the success and growth they have had and wanted to be a part of their future,” Golden Gates poker manager Tony Niehaus previously told PokerNews. “We have hosted some of the biggest tournaments in the country even though we only have 17 tables in the poker room. It should be a great fit for both sides.”

Niehaus went on to add: “We have a long track record of running big tournaments that are similar to the MSPT and very successful, so our staff should be more than prepared for yet another one coming into town. We have been making it a point to strongly promote the MSPT coming to the Golden Gates through social media, paperwork in the poker room, schedules and structures throughout the casino, and dealer buttons on the tables for a few months now. We believe good news travels fast and it shouldn’t take long for this thing to catch on big time around here.”

The latest MSPT Golden Gates stop will kick off this Friday, Nov. 7 at 12 p.m. with a $135 qualifier, which will see the top 10 percent of the field advance to the Main Event. They will then host a series of qualifiers everyday leading up to the $1,100 Main Event. Here’s a look at the schedule:
