Full Tilt Poker Montreal Main Event Day 1c: St-Michel Overall Leader Entering Day 2
The third and final starting day of the Full Tilt Poker Montreal Main Event came and went on Sunday, attracting a massive field of 610 entrants. That brings the total amount of entries to 1,625 for the event, smashing the C$1 million guarantee and making it the largest in Playground Poker Club history.
Leading the roughly 170 survivors from Day 1c is Patrick St-Michel with 456,700 chips. He will have the overall chip lead entering into Day 2, edging out Vinny Pahuja by just 200.
St-Michel won a massive pot in Level 10, eliminating two players and surpassing the 300,000-chip threshold. James Belanger and Paul Tsermentselis were three handed with St-Michel on a board of 5♥10♣J♥7♥. Belanger bet 25,000 into 30,000, Tsermentselis moved all in for around 60,000, St-Michel moved all in, and Belanger called, putting himself at risk for an additional 70,000.
St-Michel cheered as he slammed K♥6♥ onto the felt for the second-nut flush, and held against pocket aces and pocket queens.
Also surviving the day were 2013 World Series of Poker bracelet winners and Canadians Kristen Bicknell and Jason Duval. Duval lost a decent chunk of his stack during the last level of the evening, opening in late position then calling a three-bet of 9,000 from the blinds. The flop fell K♦3♣5♦, the three-bettor led out for 10,000, and Duval raised to 32,200. His opponent quickly shoved for around 60,000, and Duval folded.
Bicknell bagged 17,600 chips, while Duvall finished with 82,600.
There were plenty of casualties as well on Sunday, including Full Tilt Poker Professional Tom “durrrr” Dwan, and Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker. Moneymaker lasted longer than Dwan, who turned up very late because he dropped his phone in water on Saturday night, but neither player will be walking away with any extra loonies or toonies. Dwan was eliminated after flopping a pair and a flush draw – his opponent flopped the stone-cold nuts – and Moneymaker ran his stack up at the start of the day only to hit a brick wall after the dinner break.
Moneymaker could-four bet shoved around 30,000 at 800/1,600/200, and Faizel Satchu, the three-bettor, called with two aces. Moneymaker tabled pocket eights, and was unable to improve.
Other players who hit the rail during Day 1c action were Allen Narbonne, Will Failla, Trishelle Canatella, Laurence Gronding, and Francois Tarrab.
Day 2 will begin on Monday at noon. Joining St-Michel and Pahuja will be Full Tilt Poker Ambassadors Dermot Blain, Danielle Moon-Andersen, Martins Adeniya, Sin Melin, and others. There are also plenty of local players with big stacks, including Day 1b chip leader Guillaume Rivet and Sam Chartier.
