Join us at 3pm for the latest coverage from the floor of the Amazon Room.
With the end of Level 8, play has come to a halt for the day. We began at 5:00pm with 261 players and we have crept under 130 by the end of the night. The field was laced with pros, and we still have a good number of the full-timers who will return tomorrow for Day Two.
Despite all of the big-name pro action, it appears that our big stack is something of an unknown. The presumed overnight chip leader is Matt "Big Grapes" Grapenthien with 51,900 in chips. Grapenthien is from Chicago, Illinois, and he plays $1,000-$2,000 heads-up H.O.R.S.E. online. Shawn Sheikhan, Marco Traniello, Barry Greenstein, and both Mizrachi brothers are all hot on his heels, and tomorrow promises a tough fight for all.
We'll be back at 3:00pm local time to pick up the action, playing down to our final eight by the end of the evening. We hope you'll join us then!
Scott Clements found all his chips in the middle when he showed (X) (X) (X). His opponent was showing (X) (X) (X).
When all of the cards were revealed, Clements stood with only a pair of kings, . His opponent made two pair though, , to eliminate Clements from his quest for another bracelet.
Shawn Sheikhan has just moved his big stack over to Mike "The Mouth" Matusow's table. Not only are they at the same table, but the are seated right next to one another. Both players are amused by this fact, but Matusow seems overly thrilled that Sheikhan has a big stack and is stationed right next to him.
Shannon Elizabeth talking to Daniel Negreanu: "Pros are only pros because they pull cards out of their ass." Everyone got a good chuckle out of that one.
Kirill Gerasimov bet and raised with Nick Schulman until Schulman was all in on third street.
Schulman began with against Gerasimov's . As the dealer ran the cards out quickly, Gerasimov made a pair of queens on fifth street to take the lead.
Schulman pulled back in the lead with a rivered two pair, nines and sixes. Gerasimov peeled his last card and revealed the case nine to match the nine he received earlier and sent Schulman packing.
Robert Mizrachi completed the bet on third and Daniel Negreanu raised it up. Mizrachi called.
Negreanu then proceeded to bet every street with Mizrachi calling the entire way. On seventh, Mizrachi actually made the first bet and Negreanu called.
Mizrachi:
Negreanu:
After all the action and a pretty sizable pot, we had another chop.
