Dwan Downed

Dwan Down
Dwan Down

Tom Dwan never made the million-dollar-side-bet-comeba ck he was craving as he was just eliminated in a pot that probably ranks as the largest so far. He raised and then called Hans Ari Varsi's three-bet along with Dario Alioto in the SB. The flop came {6-Spades}{2-Clubs}{8-Spades} and Alioto took up the reigns with a 2,450 bet. Dwan moved all-in and so did Varsi for 6,200 which was enough to cover Dwan. Alioto made a quick call to create a three-way showdown:

Dwan: {k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for middle set.
Varsi: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}{10-Spades}{3-Hearts} for over-pair and flush draw.
Alioto: {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for straight draw and backdoor flush draw.

The turn came {q-Hearts} and river {5-Clubs} to make the Italian's straight. Dwan was eliminated and Varsi has to cash in his last lanner. Alioto, who won this event in 2007, is our current chip leader with 33,000(3 lanners still to cash in).
