Rousso Eliminated

Vanessa Rousso
Vanessa Rousso

Vanessa Rousso has been eliminated from today's event. She came over the top of Jamie Sykes' open and was called in two spots: Nathan Lee behind, and initial raiser Sykes.

Both remaining players checked the {3-Spades}{5-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop, only for Nathan Lee to check-call a bet of 4,000 on the {4-Clubs} turn, before taking it down on the {3-Clubs} river with the {A-Clubs}. Sykes had the {K-Clubs}, but it just took the former to show Rousso to the door.

Racener Sent Packing

John Racener
John Racener

Manig Loeser and John Racener got involved on the flop of {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. Racener checked and Loeser fired 1,150. Racener then raised to 3,500. Loeser checked on Racener's stack before sliding out a big enough stack of chips to put Racener all in. The November Niner made the call, but was behind. Racener's {A-Spades}{9-Diamonds} was dominated by the {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades} for Loeser.

The turn brought the {Q-Clubs} and the river the {J-Spades}. Racener was sent to the rail and he'll have to wait until the next one while Loeser improved to 61,000 in chips.

Liv & Let Die

Liv Boeree
Liv Boeree

Much to the elation of the hot-blooded males in the room, Liv Boeree has just disposed of a shorter-stacked opponent to witness her stack surge to over the 30,000 mark.

The EPT San Remo starlet opened to 1,050 from under the gun and her neighbour made the call, only for the big blind to push all in for 8,050. Boeree called from a stack of circa 21,000, which was enough for the caller to identify the rat and relinquish {A-}{K-}.

Big Slick wasn't the only big hand out there, as the big blind showed {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}, whilst Boeree did indeed have the goods with {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}. The {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop had the escapee squirming in his seat like a frog in a blender, and even more so as the turn and river came a cowboy-less {10-Spades} and {J-Clubs} respectively to award Boeree the pot.

Laakin' Good

Phil Laak (Honorary Brit if he wins)
Phil Laak (Honorary Brit if he wins)

John Eames might share his surname with a cool character from the film Inception but his dreams of winning this event have just died. Phil Laak opened to 1,700 from the hijack and Rui Cao flat-called on the button. Eames then pushed for a total of 16,025 more and Laak then pushed behind him and Cao folded.

"Do you have a pair?" inquired Eames.

"No," said Laak.

"Then I'm ahead," replied the youngster turning over {8-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} as Laak flipped {A-Spades} {Q-Clubs}.

The board though had other ideas, coming {5-Hearts} {A-Spades} {5-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {6-Hearts} and another British youngster bit the dust. The Brits have had great success over the last two weeks with EPT, WPT and World Open successes, but it does not look like they'll be taking home this bracelet.

Kenney Calls with King High and Wins

The flop read {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs} between Nico Behling and Bryn Kenney. Behling was up first and checked. Kenney fired 3,800 and Behling made the call. The turn card brought the {3-Diamonds} and both players checked.

The river card completed the board with the {10-Diamonds}. Behling fired out 6,000 and this bet sent Kenney into the tank. Kenney thought for a bit, double checked his hand, thought for a bit more, put the call amount to the side and then finally tossed it in. Behling sheepishly turned over the {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} knowing he couldn't be good. Kenney held the {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades} for just king high and picked off Behling's bluff nicely to put his stack to 50,000 in chips. Behling dropped to 32,200.

Lisandro Still Chipping Up

After an opponent opened with a preflop raise to 1,400. Jeffrey Lisandro three-bet to 3,900. The original raiser called and the two saw a flop of {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}. The first player checked and Lisandro fired out 4,000. His opponent folded and Lisandro chipped back up to 66,000 rather easily.

Brown Downed

Chad Brown
Chad Brown

I'm unsure as to when the chips hit the middle (although I would assume the flop), but Chad Brown hit the deck with {6-Clubs}{2-Clubs} versus {A-Clubs}{9-Hearts} on a {9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{9-Clubs} board.

There was a long kafuffle as they sorted out the chips and confirmed Brown's exit, to which the tournament director offered his apology for the painful delay.

"It all right," responded Chad as he rose from his seat. "It makes me feel like I lasted longer."

Going Through the Motions

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Phil Laak caught out eye as we were counting down his stack, and he was kind enough to help us out. "Forty-niiiiiiine," he said wryly.

From the adjacent table, Phil Hellmuth decided to strike up a conversation. "Laak, you gotta go through the motions, baby," he said cryptically.

"Forty-nine diiiiiimes," was Laak's reply to that.

"Forty-nine? I got... like... forty-five hundred," Hellmuth responded (inflating his count by about 1,000 for what it's worth). "You got, like, ten times what I do. But I'm still gonna go through the motions, baby."

On the next deal, Hellmuth went through the motions -- of raising. He slid out 1,800 to commit more than half of his remaining stack preflop. A player in the blinds shrugged and re-raised him all in, and Hellmuth put his last few chips into the pot, now at risk of elimination.

The player in the blinds turned up {K-Hearts} {9-Spades}, and Hellmuth sunk in his chair. "Dang. You got me in bad shape, buddy. I got king-eight." The Brat tabled his {K-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} to prove it, and he was going to need some help to stay around.

And help is just he would get. The board ran {10-Spades} {10-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}, and both men play their king kickers. "Ah ha! Split pot!" It was indeed a chop-chop, and Hellmuth adds 675 chips to his stack by taking half the blinds and antes. That's not much, but it is close to 20% of The Brat's stack.
