All-In and Call

Level 11 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

With each re-entry into the tournament, a starting stack is only worth 25 big blinds and that will soon become 20 big blinds when the level goes up in about 15 minutes. That is creating a lot of short-stacked poker for certain players and there seems to be an all in and call every other hand.

Rainer Kempe pushed all-in for 750,000 in the cutoff and Adrian Mateos called from the big blind. Kempe held {a-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and was likely going to chop with Mateos who had {a-Diamonds}{5-Spades}. However, the runout of {q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{8-Spades} gave Mateos a pair of fives and Kempe was eliminated.

In the next hand, the action folded to Mateos in the small blind who shoved all in. James Chen was in the big blind with a stack of 1,540,000 and he thought for a moment before looking at his watch and making the decision to call.

Mateos turned over {q-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and Chen was currently in the lead with {k-Hearts}{8-Clubs}. The board ran out {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{10-Spades}{7-Diamonds} which missed both players and Chen scored a double up.
