Ehlers Extends Chip Lead

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 0 ante
Nico Ehlers
Nico Ehlers

On a {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Spades}{10-Hearts} board in a blind on blind battle, Nico Ehlers bet 25,000 into a pot of approaching 100,000. His opponent in the big blind was Rene Berube and he raised in position to 100,000. Ehlers snap re-raised all in and Berube shook his head before mucking.

Ehlers showed {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} and Berube counted out the remnants of his stack.

"Pro-tip," said tablemate Sander van Wesemael, "Don't bluff when they have the nuts."

Akenhead Ousted

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 0 ante

Ivo Donev limped in on the button and Alexander Lakhov raised to 25,000 in the small blind. James Akenhead was in the big blind and moved all-in for 56,000. Donev folded and Lakhov called with his {k-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{8-Spades}. Akenhead turned over {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}{7-Spades}{5-Hearts} and was the player at risk.

The board ran out {k-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades}{9-Spades} and Akenhead was unable to connect. With his elimination, there are now 24 players remaining and a new table redraw is being conducted.

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Sander van Wesemael opened to 22,000 from middle position and Marek Tatar made a pot-sized raise to 78,000. The action folded back around to van Wesemael who announced all-in and Tatar stuck in his remaining chips.

Sander van Wesemael: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Marek Tatar: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}

The board ran out {q-Spades}{9-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and van Wesemael's pair of aces held up to eliminate Tatar.

Fernandez Pushes Zisimopoulos Off

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

There was a raise to 16,000 by Krysztof Magott from under the gun and Georgios Zisimopoulos called from the hijack along with the small blind and Sergio Fernandez in the big blind.

The flop came {a-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Clubs} and the action was checked to Zisimopoulos who bet 64,000. Fernandez was the only player to call and the {a-Hearts} paired the board on the turn. Both players checked to the {2-Clubs} on the river and Fernandez led out for 94,000. Zisimopoulos quickly mucked his hand Fernandez picked up the pot.

Day 1a Chip Leader Mustafov Eliminated

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante
Fahredin Mustafov
Fahredin Mustafov

Normally when tournaments resume, you keep an eye on the big stacks to see how big their stack will grow following the inevitable early bustouts of shortstacks. However, in a stunning turn of events Fahredin Mustafov has seen his Day 1a chip leader's stack of 490,000 reduced to zero following two big pots with Nico Ehlers.

Ehlers told us how the pair got it in on a {10-}{6-}{2-} flop with Ehlers holding pocket aces to double up the first time. Then on a turn with a flush possible, Mustafov apparently bluffed off the rest of his stack with the nut-flush blocker, only for Ehlers to call with the second-nut flush.

Mustafov takes home €1,341 for his 28th place finish.

Bicknell With Aces Again

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Nursultan Abilkassym raised to 28,000 from the hijack and Kristen Bicknell re-raised to 85,000 in the cutoff. Abilkassym stuck in his remaining chips and turned over {j-Spades}{10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. Bicknell was out front with {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{5-Spades}.

The board ran out {10-Clubs}{8-Spades}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{j-Clubs} and Abilkassym made two pair on the river but Bicknell's two pair with her aces were better. Abilkassym was eliminated and Bicknell picked up another pot early on.
