Sointula's Aces Hold Up

Jani Sointula
Jani Sointula

Jani Sointula raised to 75,000, and his neighbor Richard Yong three-bet to 150,000. Sointula moved all in, and Yong called.

Showdown:
Jani Sointula: {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}
Richard Yong: {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {2-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{6-Clubs}, and Sointula doubled up to a very healthy stack. He was all in for a total of 553,000 and Yong took a big hit.

Philipp Gruissem raised to 50,000 and Winfred Yu called in position. John Juanda tossed in the extra chips from the big blind creating three-way action.

The flop ran out {7-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and both Juanda and Gruissem checked. Yu tossed out a 110,000-chip bet after which Juanda folded quickly. Gruissem tanked for a while, but eventually he folded as well.

Yu smiled and flashed the {8-Hearts} as he took down an important hand for his small stack.

Yong Active Early On

Richard Yong had picked up the first pot of the day by raising to 52,000. On the third hand of play he folded to a re-shove from David Benefield, but on the next hand he was at it again.

Steve O'Dwyer raised from early position and Yong called from the big blind. The flop came down {A-Clubs}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts}, and Yong took down the pot with a 80,000-chip bet.

Who Will Become The Majestic High Roller Champion?

John Juanda
John Juanda

That's the question as we head into the final day of play here at the Majestic Hotel in Cannes, France. Just nine players remain, who are all gunning for that one million euro first place prize. But first, there's still a bubble to be burst. Only eight players will get paid, and play will resume with caution.

John Juanda is the clear cut chip leader as he's looking to eclipse the $15,000,000 mark in live tournament earnings with a victory today. A min cash in this event would make 2012 the biggest winning year in his career to date. He will have plenty of competition from a wide range of world class players. German top pros Philipp Gruissem and Tobias Reinkemeier both have good stacks while Steve O'Dwyer has direct position on the chip leader.

The pressure will be on Mike Watson and Winfred Yu who start the day out at the bottom of the counts. Watson, who's the short stack, still has 12 big blinds so it's not over yet for the Canadian pro.

The final table will start at 3:00 PM local time, and PokerNews will bring you all the live updates throughout the day!
