Mercier Bests Gruissem

Action folded to Philipp Gruissem on the button, and he raised to 5,000. From the big blind, two-time World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner Jason Mercier called and the two were off to a flop.

The flop came down {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}, and Mercier checked. Gruissem checked behind, and the dealer added the {Q-Hearts} to the board on fourth street. With the board now paired, Mercier fired 4,300, and Gruissem called.

The river was the {J-Diamonds}, and both players checked to get to a showdown. Mercier turned up his hand first to reveal the {A-Spades}{J-Spades}. His two pair, queens and jacks, was enough to beat Gruissem as he mucked without showing.
