Sleepy Goyens Gets Away With Costly Mistake
David Benyamine has been chirpy and quite active over on Table 9. He just raised under the gun to 900 and two players called. Dries Goyens was in the small blind and three-bet to 4,500. Dan Shak folded his big blind, and the action was back on Benyamine.
Without hesitation Benyamine threw in a grey chip worth 5,000, and the two callers folded. Goyens thought he had won the hand, and threw his cards towards the muck.
The players at the table quickly reminded him Benyamine hadn't folded, and Goyens tried to retrieve his cards. One of Goyens' cards had hit the muck, and the dealer put her hands over the cards in order to keep them in place. The floor was called over.
"I hate this," Benyamine sighed as he felt bad for Goyens who had made an honest mistake.
All the other players at the table were very vocal about Goyens cards all being retrievable, and eventually he got all four back.
The flop brought out , and Benyamine threw his cards into the muck right away. After a few seconds of confusion Goyens received the pot, and he opted to show the . Jason Mercier started laughing, and Benyamine could not keep a straight face either.
"I'm sorry," Goyens said abou the situation. "I should be sleeping more."
"It's alright, the only mistake you made was showing the seven," Benyamine replied with a smile after which he asked what Goyens had.
"I had a rundown, " Goyens said, and that had Benyamine smiling again. He later admitted to having had , and Goyens was drawing very slim pre flop. Things turned out differently, and Goyens took down the pot in a situation where he probably would've lost a very big percentage of the time due to his hand hitting the muck.
