Hand #31 - John Juanda

Daniel Negreanu has the button in Seat 2. Stanislav Alekhin makes it 40,000 to go and John Juanda calls the additional 24,000 from the big blind. The flop is {9-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {5-Diamonds}. Juanda checks over to Alekhin, who checks behind. The turn is the {Q-Clubs}, prompting a 68,000 bet from Juanda. Alekhin folds and Juanda wins the pot.

Hand #32 - Scott Fischman

Bengt Sonnert has the button in Seat 4. Scott Fischman opens the pot with a raise to 41,000 from early position and Stanislav Alekhin is the lone caller.

Both players check the {6-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {9-Clubs} {10-Clubs} board down to the river, at which point Fischman fires a 100,000 bullet. Alekhin tanks, but eventually folds and Scott takes down the pot.

You Could (Almost) Hear a Pin Drop

Perhaps it's the early hour or the fact that most of the crowd has yet to start ordering cocktails in earnest, but the atmosphere here at the Empire is remarkably quiet today compared to the din of activity that has marked our last two weeks here. The loudest noises are coming from the electronic roulette machine stationed behind media row, which, every minute or so, asks players to "place their bets" in a crisp English accent. The audience is rather subdued as well, rarely applauding after pots are won.

Hand #34 - Ivan Demidov

Ivan Demidov has the button in Seat 6. John Juanda opens the pot with a raise to 40,000 from the cutoff and Demidov makes the call from the button.

The flop comes {3-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} and Juanda quickly checks. Demidov then fires a bet of 49,000 and Juanda folds.

Hand #37 - John Juanda

Stanislav Alekhin has the button in Seat 9. John Juanda raises to 46,000, Scott Fischman makes the call, and Daniel Negreanu calls from the big blind. The flop is {K-Spades} {K-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} and the action is checked around. The turn is the {J-Diamonds}. Negreanu checks again and Juanda puts out a bet of 85,000. Fischman calls and Negreanu folds. The river is the {2-Hearts}. Juanda slides out a stack totaling 224,000 and after a short dwell, Fischman gives up his hand with a frown.

After the hand, Juanda was up to 1,180,000 while Fischman fell to 489,000.
