Ivan Demidov Eliminated in 3rd Place (£334,850)

Ivan Demidov - 3rd Place
Ivan Demidov - 3rd Place
Hand #242 -

There will be no double Main Event winner this year.

Stanislav Alekhin has the button in Seat 9. John Juanda raises to 105,000 from the small blind and Ivan Demidov calls from the big. The flop is {8-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds}. Juanda checks it over to Demidov, who bets 170,000. Juanda makes the call. The {J-Clubs} on the turn prompts another check from Juanda and a 450,000 bet from Demidov. Juanda moves all in and Demidov calls.

Demidov {Q-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}

Juanda {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs}

Juanda is ahead, but Demidov has outs with straight and flush draws. The river, though is the {J-Spades} and Ivan Demidov is eliminated in third place. He'll take home £334,850 for his impressive performance tonight. See you in November, Ivan.

Hand #241 - John Juanda

Ivan Demidov has the button in Seat 6 and raises to 95,000 and John Juanda makes the call from the big blind.

The flop comes {2-Hearts} {J-Spades} {6-Diamonds} and Juanda checks to Demidov, who makes a continuation bet of 135,000. Juanda then check-raises to 300,000. Demidov, unshaken, makes the call and sees the {10-Clubs} land on the turn.

Juanda continues the onslaught with a 475,000 bet that sends Demidov into the tank.... again. Demidov eventually emerges with a call and the river delivers the {10-Diamonds}.

A surprising check, check on the river brings us straight to the showdown, at which point Juanda tables {Q-Hearts} {J-Hearts} for two pair, and Demidov mucks, giving Juanda the checkmark.

Updated chip counts on the way.

Hand #240 - Ivan Demidov

John Juanda has the button in Seat 5. Ivan Demidov completes the small blind and Stanislav Alekhin checks his option. The flop is {Q-Clubs} {9-Clubs} {2-Clubs}. A 55,000 bet from Demidov is enough to take it down.

Hand #238 - Ivan Demidov, John Juanda

Ivan Demidov has the button in Seat 6. He raises to 95,000, and John Juanda moves all in from the big blind. He dwells for a bit, sipping from his bottle of water and looks quite exhausted as he mulls his decision. The two chat back and forth to each other for several minutes, but the dialogue is inaudible both to us and the audience. Ultimately he calls.

And.... they have the same hand, {A-?} {J-?}.

A rainbow flop ends any flush possibilities and they split the pot.

Hand #234 - Stanislav Alekhin

John Juanda had the button in Seat 5 and open folded. Ivan Demidov completed the bet from the small blind and Stanislav Alekhin exercised his option in the big, making it 80,000 more to go. Demidov made the call and the two saw a flop of {K-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {3-Diamonds}.

Demidov checked to Alekhin who fired a 125,000 bet. Demidov made the call and the turn brought the {7-Clubs}.

Demidov checked once more and Alekhin fired a second bullet -- this time for 225,000. Action then returned to Demidov and he made the call.

The last card off the deck was the {2-Clubs} and Demidov checked again, allowing Alekhin to fire 450,000. Demidov made the call and Alekhin tabled {8-Hearts} {3-Hearts} for trips; Demidov mucked.
