Lawrence in Trouble

Omaha 8:

Spencer Lawrence is struggling after being bashed down to 55,000 by Sherkhan Farnood. I joined the action with three players remaining and an {8-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{4-Clubs} board waiting patiently on the felt.

With Farnood leading out for 10,000, Phil Ivey side-stepped out of the way, and Lawrence made the call.

A {3-Spades} river triggered another bet of 10,000, and a frustrated shake of the head from Lawrence who sensed he was beat. After twitching in his seat like a frog in a blender (he is highly animated in his mannerisms), Lawrence made the call.

Sadly for the UK player, Farnood's {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts} was good enough to scoop the pot.

Choppety Chop Chop

Omaha 8:

As you'd expect from a H.O.R.S.E event, we're seeing more chops than my local butcher's with many pots being split two ways. On the last hand, however, Howard Lederer and Mark Gregorich at least had the added bonus of sharing Sherkhan Farnood's chips as the three players tangled in an Omaha 8 hand.

With the board reading {K-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Clubs}, Lederer check-raised Farnood's bet of 5,000 to 10,000. Both Gregorich and Farnood called.

After all three players had checked the {7-Hearts} turn, Lederer led out for 10,000 on the {10-Clubs} river, Gregorich called and Farnood folded, albeit hesitantly.

On their backs, and Lederer took the high with {K-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{A-Spades}{9-Spades} for a straight, whilst Gregorich snapped up the other half of the pot with {J-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} with a low to the seven.

Farnood Survives His First All In

Sherkhan Survives
Sherkhan Survives
Omaha 8:

Sherkhan Farnood raised from the cutoff, Spencer Lawrence three-bet from the small blind, Jeffrey Lisandro made it four bets from the big blind, Farnood put his remaining 22,000 into the pot and both Lawrence and Lisandro called an additional 2,000 apiece. Farnood was all in for the main pot, with action proceeding on the side between Lawrence and Lisandro.

The flop was {10-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {3-Clubs} and Lawrence check-called a bet from Lisandro. The turn was the {7-Diamonds} and Lawrence check-called again. The river fell the {A-Spades}. A third check-call from Lawrence.

On their backs...

Farnood {2-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {4-Hearts} {5-Clubs}

Lawrence {A-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {10-Clubs}

Lisandro {A-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}

Farnood's wheel won him the main pot while Lawrence and Lisandro split the side.

Ship It to the Professor

Omaha 8:

Howard Lederer opened for a preflop raise and Sherkhan Farnood called on the button. The flop was {K-Spades} {Q-Clubs} {5-Hearts}. Lederer bet out and Farnood called. The turn came the {6-Hearts} and Lederer bet again, but was met with a raise from Farnood. Lederer screwed his face up in a frown and made the call. The river was the {5-Clubs} and Lederer check-called Farnood's bet.

Farnood showed {A-Spades} {4-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} for kings and fives, but Lederer had him beat with {A-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {K-Clubs} for kings and queens. With no low on the board, Lederer scooped the pot, leaving Farnood short-stacked.

The Mystery of the Yellow Discs

After several minutes of intense deliberation, the mystery of the yellow discs that sit before the dealer has finally been revealed courtesy of tournament director Jack Effel. With Nolan Dalla and myself shamefully stumped as to their function, Jack informed us that they were being used to count the number of hands for a particular game, with the dealer shifting a disc to her right hand side after every hand. "Surely she must forget from time to time," I pondered (mainly talking to myself at this point), but after observing astutely for the last couple of levels, I witnessed no such errors and confirm that the dealers here are in top notch form.

So there you go, who needs the wonders of modern technology when you have yellow discs.

Donev Makes a Boat

Hold'em:

Jeff Lisandro raised it up to 10,000 from middle position, Ivo Donev bumped it up to 15,000 one seat along, and Lisandro made the call.

Both players checked the {3-Spades}{4-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop only for Donev to lead out for 10,000 on the {K-Spades} turn.

On the {K-Clubs} river, Lisandro checked, Donev bet 10,000 and Lisandro folded. Donev showed {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} for the rivered boat.

Tableside Dining with Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey just had a delicious-looking curry delivered to the table, and is now attempting to balance (a) mixing the chicken and curry with rice, (b) eating the mixture with chopsticks, and (c) playing world-class poker. It all smells rather intoxicating and I've already offered Snoopy twenty quid to consume the leftovers should Ivey make an early bustout.

Farnood and Lawrence Split

Stud 8:

Farnood (X) (X) {2-Clubs} {8-Spades} {8-Hearts} {Q-Spades} (X)

Lawrence (X) (X) {2-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {9-Spades} {K-Diamonds} (X)

Lisandro (X) (X) {A-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {10-Hearts}

Donev (X) (X) {6-Hearts} {J-Clubs}

Sherkhan Farnood had the bring-on, Spencer Lawrence called, Jeffrey Lisandro completed to 5,000, Ivo Donev called, Farnood called and Lawrence called. Lisandro bet out with the high board on fourth, Donev folded, Farnood called, Lawrence raised, and both Lisandro and Farnood called.

Farnood made an open pair of eights on fifth street and bet out, Lawrence made the call and Lisandro mucked. On sixth it was another bet from Farnood and another call from Lawrence. Both players checked seventh street.

Lawrence showed {A-Spades} {3-Hearts} {6-Clubs} in the hole for a 6-4-3-2-A low, Farnood flipped up {2-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} for two pair, eights and deuces and they split the pot.
