Rumours are currently rife that in order to finish today's play as quickly as possible so they can head off to the pub, the tournament directors sneaked into the hotels of the players and injected them with a lethal combination of Red Bull and Lucozade Sport.
It's only hearsay at this point in time, but the players have been particularly antsy in their pantsy today, so a full investigation into the allegations will certainly be undertaken by the poker police.
Nicolas Levi moved all in from the small blind and got an insta-call from John Tabatabai in the big blind. It was Levi's up against the of Tabatabai. The flop was , the turn was the , and the river was the , eliminating Levi, who gracefully shook his opponent's hand before making his exit.
We've now paused for the remaining 26 players to re-draw to three tables and move out of the downstairs "Face to Face" poker room to the upstairs gaming area.
A giant pot became the focus of every camera in the room as Aleksander Vathne raised preflop, again, and Shaun Needham moved all-in (again, this time for just over 100k). Then Tino Lechich in the small blind went into the tank, and both players interested in the hand were watching as he contemplated the chips in front of him. He called, eventually, for about half his stack.
Back to Vathne, whom we all expected to get out of the way, but he re-raised all in. Tino Lechich dwelled once more, this time for longer, and eventually said that he called. Threeway on-their-backs!
Shaun Needham:
Tino Lechich:
Aleksander Vathne:
Flop: "Yes!" shouted a happy Lechich
Turn: Tino jumps out of his seat, scattering cameramen
River: "YEEEEES!" screams Lechich at a volume we are unused to at this time of the morning.
New chip leader: Tino Lechich - around half a million in chips; Needham - out.
Over at the featured TV table, Gus Hansen opened up for a 18,000 raise. Patrik Antonius moved all in from the button for 178,000. Magnus Persson moved all in from the big blind for 238,000. Hansen went into the tank.
"If I call this could be a big hand," he said.
He thought for another two minutes before he folded.
Antonius:
Persson:
The flop was and Persson took the lead.
"I can't win a race," said a dejected Antonius.
The turn was the and the river was the . Persson won the pot as Patrik Antonius headed to the rail in 29th place. He won £27,150.
Magnus Persson increased his stack to over 400,000.
Heavily supported Brit James Keys has just seen off plucky Italian, Marcello Marigliano, the happy chappy pushing under the gun with but being looked up by Keys' .
The board bringing no surprises, and leaving us with 30.
It's truly bizarre today, the players are dropping like flemmings {a cross breed of flies and lemmings} after playing the last 90 minutes of last night without losing anyone. Why they would want to spend an extra night in the hotel just to get busy this morning, I'll never know. As Annie Duke amusingly said, "What were we all dreaming about last night?"
I almost answered 'Annie Duke' but I don't think my girlfriend would have been too pleased.
Patrick Jouven moved all in over the top of Theo Jorgensen's pre-flop raise and Jorgensen made the call. Jouven turned over and was ahead of Jorgensen's . That all changed on the flop when it came down , making Jorgensen two pair. The turn was the , the river was the , and Jouven was eliminated.
Straight off the bat, Shaun Needham raised all in (roughly double Aleksander Vathne's preflop cutoff raise to 19k). Vathne threw in the extra change, and showed ; Needham had .
